 Press Release - Memorial Day Marathon - 4/26/10
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

        Inaugural Memorial Day Marathon To Feature Satellite Race 
                          In Afghanistan

The Inaugural Memorial Day Marathon weekend, will take place May 29-30, 
2010 in Lenox, MA. The weekend will feature the Memorial Day Marathon and 
Half Marathon plus the Berkshires 10K and 5K races.  The race will start 
and finish at the iconic Tanglewood Music Center located in the picturesque 
Berkshires of Western Massachusetts.  Additionally, there will be a 
pre-race expo at Tanglewood on May 29. 

The event will be commemorating the tireless and selfless devotion of our 
US soldiers.  A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the 
Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund which distributes grants to families of 
soldiers who have been killed in action and offers care for soldiers with 
traumatic brain injuries.  All half and full marathon finishers will 
receive special custom dog tag finisher medals and American flags will be 
distributed throughout the course to spectators.  The day will kick off 
with a flyover by Barnes Air National Guard just before the start of the 
race. 

In tandem with the race will be a satellite event at the Forward Operating 
Base in Shindand, Afghanistan.   Members of the military will be running 
full and half marathons on the airbase. The race will take place on 
Memorial Day morning, 12 hours after the Memorial Day Marathon in Lenox, 
MA.  Soldiers have been registering online to feel part of the event and 
will be receiving custom finisher medals, t-shirts, race bibs and 
additional sponsor products in the mail. There are currently thirty-four 
soldiers participating. 

All races will take place on May 30, 2010. The Memorial Day Marathon and 
Half Marathon begin at 8:00 AM and the Berkshires 10K and 5K at 8:20.

Running Away, The Travel Company for Runners is offering travel packages in 
partnership with the Memorial Day Marathon.   Additional title sponsors 
include Legacy Banks, Price Chopper, The Red Lion Inn and Food Should Taste 
Good.
