'Coach' Alan Woodruff – New Race Director
of Nevada Wide Open Marathon de Mayo II

Alan Woodruff, a veteran marathoner runner, a triathlete, a well known race
announcer, and a running coach … Now, is also the new Race Director for
he 2007 Nevada Wide Open Marathon de Mayo held on May 6 in Reno, NV. His
perspective as a marathoner and coach brings a new look and feel to all of
the MdM II races in 2007.

(Reno, NEV) August 28, 2006 – Alan Woodruff is a veteran marathoner runner,
a triathlete, a well known race announcer, and a running coach. Now, he is
also the new Race Director for the 2007 Nevada Wide Open Marathon de Mayo
held on May 6 in Reno, NV. His perspective as a marathoner and coach brings
a new look and feel to all of the MdM II races in 2007.

Woodruff has been the race director for the El Paseo Turkey Trot for nearly
a decade as well as race director for the Palm Springs Senior Olympics 5
and 10 K race. He came to Reno as the race announcer for the inaugural
Marathon de Mayo and afterward approached the producers for the race
director's position.

"I became involved with Marathon de Mayo to put a coach's and a marathon
runner's perspective into the race. So many times a course is designed
without input from runners and people who have not experienced what racing
is all about. I want to make the Nevada Wide Open Marathon de Mayo a
runner's run."

Woodruff's nickname is "coach" and it describes his outlook on running a
race to perfection. As the guest race announcer for the inaugural Nevada
Wide Open Marathon de Mayo, Woodruff kept the runners loose with the focus
on fun. As a race announcer you will have heard Woodruff at the Long Beach
Marathon and at the Super Bowl Redondo Beach 5K & 10K to name but two of
his many race announcing gigs.

But now as the race director for MdM II, Woodruff has the desire to make
Reno's premier race a major running destination.

"I saw the potential for defining a world-class race and I am pleased to
work with the producers, Doug and Dianemarie Collins, in their effort to
improve all the runs that are part of the Nevada Wide Open Marathon de
Mayo. This race is so much more than a marathon; we have a 5 K and 10 K, a
Half-marathon and this year we have added the marathon relay … where a
five-person team can complete a marathon for prizes as well."

"I plan on putting more emphasis into the organization strictly from my
years as a Coach and long distance runner. In general, I became involved in
the Marathon De Mayo to give the runners in this race a voice that has
'been there … done that'."
