GRANDMA'S MARATHON 2011 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES
(Duluth, Minn.) Grandma's Marathon has announced its 2011 Hall of Fame
class. The nonprofit organization has named the following for induction
into its hall:
*Chelly Townsend
Longtime Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) contact for the
Michelina's spaghetti dinner and a finish line volunteer in charge of
organizing recycling efforts in the finish area
*G.B. Leighton
Headline band for Grandma's Marathon live entertainment for 15 years
*Steve Harrington
Former board member and race medical director for Grandma's Marathon
*Ron Francisco
Longtime auxiliary police officer during Grandma's Marathon weekend
*Ed Hermel
Race ambassador and participant of Grandma's Marathon and the Garry
Bjorklund Half Marathon
"The success and development of our organization is based on dedicated
people like these. We are pleased to recognize their contributions by
inducting them into our hall of fame," said Scott Keenan, executive
director of Grandma's Marathon.
The 2011 Hall of Fame inductees will receive their awards at the June 18
post-race award ceremony which begins at 4 p.m. at the DECC.
Grandma's Marathon weekend kicks off with the Essentia Health Fitness &
Health Expo which begins at 5 p.m. June 16 and continues all day on Friday,
June 17. Other Friday events include the Michelina's All-You-Can-Eat
Spaghetti Dinner, the Whipper Snapper Races for Kids, guest speaking
presentations, the William A. Irvin 5K and live entertainment.
The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and Grandma's Marathon are Saturday, June
