Lebanese Runner Slim Samer Takes Top Place in the 2012 Cyprus Marathon
More than 400 runners took part in the 2012 Cyprus Marathon (Marathon, Half
Marathon and 10km Road Race) which was organised successfully on Sunday
11th March 2012. The Marathon course started from Petra tou Romiou
(Birthplace of Aphrodite goddess of love and beauty) and finished at the
Pafos Mediaeval Fort Square. The other two races (Half Marathon & 10 km
Road Race) started and finished at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort Square. The
events were successfully organized by NIKI Sports Management. The Marathon
departed at 8:00 a.m. followed by the Half Marathon and the 10km at 9:00
a.m. A warm-up session was held before the start of the Half Marathon & 10
km races from Braiv Health Clubs.
The number of runners that participated indicated the big impact of the
event, as most of the runners came from abroad, especially to participate
in the event. There were runners from more than 30 different countries such
as England, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Hungary, Belgium, Austria,
Netherlands, Poland, Denmark, Lebanon, Japan, Russia, Scotland, USA,
Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Maroc, Kenya, Taiwan, Jordan, Romania,
China, South Africa, Kingdom of Bahrain, Greece and Cyprus. There were also
quite a few runners who participated in the Marathon to raise money for
charities.
The Lebanese runner Slim Samer won the 2012 Cyprus Marathon in a time
2:55:47 followed from the British runner Lee Green in 2:57:40. The German
runner Andreas Jago crossed the Marathon finish line in third place with a
time 3:07:01. The British lady Yvonne Davies was first in the Marathon
women category with a time 3:56:14 followed from the Cypriot woman Daina
Miskouri in a time 4:00:50. The British lady Jane McGaff crossed the
Marathon finish line in third place with a time of 4:07:04. The British
runner Kevin Newman won the Cyprus Half Marathon in a time 1:19:50 followed
in the second place from another British runner Mr. Steve Cox with in a
time 1:22:13. The British lady Sarah Knox won the ladies race with the time
of 1:31:41. Second lady in the Half Marathon distance was British lady
Diane Mckay clocking 1:35:40. The male winner of the Cyprus 10km Road Race
was the Cypriot runner Panicos Neophytou with a time of 37:37 and the
female winner was British lady Lucy Elliott with the time 37:11 (overall
winner of the 2012 Cyprus 10 km Road Race).
Each participant who finished the Cyprus Marathon 2012 was given a quality,
commemorative Castrol T-shirt and a medal. Awards were given to the first
three runners in each of the 48 age group categories. After the races the
Organisers offered to all participants ample quantities of seasonal fruit,
beer, orange juices, electrolytes and mineral water. The runners and
spectators were entertained with traditional Cypriot folklore dancing from
the Dance Group 'Chorevtiko Schima to Kastro' and Greek music of the 20th
century by the 'Admitos Pitsillides' Music Ensemble. Overall it was a great
fun day and really rewarding to all runners who crossed the finish line. It

On Saturday 10th March Braiv Health Clubs organised the charity event "GET
ACTIVE PAFOS" in aid of BRAIV KIDZ CHARITY at the Pafos Castle Square. The
event was a huge success attracting more than one hundred participants. All
in all the city of Pafos produced a spectacular event that heralded not
just a few but hundreds of winners. As the many finishers exited Pafos
Mediaeval Fort square an overwhelming sense of achievement radiated from
the Fort. The Organisers of the Cyprus Marathon 2011 express their sincere
