Kids Marathon Added to 2011 Cox Rhode Races Weekend
Providence, RI: The Cox Providence Rhode Races has teamed up with Shape Up
RI and Roger Williams Park Zoo in an effort to get kids to exercise and
live a healthy lifestyle through the Kids Marathon. This new race will be
part of the fourth annual Cox Providence Rhode Races, April 30-May 1, 2011
in Providence, R.I.
Scheduled for Saturday, April 30, the Kids Marathon will feature a 1.2 mile
run/walk at Roger Williams Park in Providence. After participating in the
run/walk, kids will have an opportunity to complete the "marathon" by
taking part in a scavenger hunt at Roger Williams Park Zoo. The 25-point
scavenger hunt will promote healthy lifestyles, proper nutrition, exercise
and more.
"As one of RI's leading outdoor family destinations, we look forward to
hosting the participants in the Kids Marathon. We strongly believe in the
importance of families sharing outdoor play to foster children's health and
development," stated Jack Mulvena, Executive Director of Roger Williams
Park Zoo.
The Kids Marathon will also serve as the the culmination of Shape Up RI's
new program promoting healthy lifestyles to youth. This program will
encourage local elementary school students to track their pedometer steps
and healthy eating and complete the program by participating in the Kids
Marathon.

Roger Williams Park Zoo to promote healthy and active lifestyles among
