Press Release - Boston Marathon - 3/9/22

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

First-Ever Boston Marathon Giving Day Set For Wednesday, March 16

BOSTON - The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), in partnership with
Boston Marathon principal sponsor John Hancock, has announced that
Wednesday, March 16 will be Boston Marathon Giving Day. The inaugural
Boston Marathon Giving Day encourages all athletes and marathon supporters
to help raise meaningful funds for the more than 200 non-profit programs
affiliated with the 126th Boston Marathon. This year’s Boston Marathon is
set for Monday, April 18.

Boston Marathon Giving Day will feature unique incentives for fundraising
athletes who reach certain benchmarks throughout March 16. The day’s top
fundraising athlete will receive a donation of $3,000 to their GivenGain
fundraising page. The second-highest fundraiser will receive a $2,000
donation, while the third highest fundraiser will receive $1,000.
Additionally, athletes who fundraise at least $1,000 will have a chance to
win one of eight $500 donations to their respective charity or non-profit’s
GivenGain page.

In addition, any 126th Boston Marathon fundraising athlete who raises
$2,500 or more on March 16 will be entered to win a special Boston
Experience prize pack including flights, hotel accommodations, entries into
the 2022 B.A.A. 5K, a $500 American Express gift card, and VIP finish line
race day tickets. Every donation of $100 or more qualifies fundraisers to
win one of three packages: two finish line tickets for the 126th Boston
Marathon; one complimentary 2022 B.A.A. Distance Medley registration; or
one $150 adidas gift card.

Only athletes who raise money through the GivenGain platform for one of the
B.A.A. Official Charity Program or John Hancock Non-Profit Program teams
are eligible for the additional donations or prize packages. All funds must
be raised between 12:01 a.m. ET on March 16 through 11:59:59 p.m. ET on
March 16; offline donations do not count towards incentive. Winners will be
notified directly via email by the B.A.A.

The B.A.A. Official Charity Program and the John Hancock Non-Profit Program
have combined to raise more than $426 million since the charity program’s
inception at the 1989 Boston Marathon.
