           Changes to 2014 Boston Marathon Elite Athlete Team

Changes to the field include the addition of Meselech Melkamu of Ethiopia 
and drops of Shami Dawud of Ethiopia, Yolanda Caballero of Colombia, and 
Amy Hastings of the U.S. 

- Meselech Melkamu made her marathon debut in 2012 by setting a new course 
record of 2:21:01 in Frankfurt. She has had a prolific track and cross 
country career, earning five bronze medals at IAAF World Cross Country 
Championships and two silver medals at IAAF World Track and Field

- Shami Dawud is a drop from the field due to trouble obtaining a P1 visa. 

- Yolanda Caballero, a 2012 Olympian, has been withdrawn from the field due 
to a positive result in out of competition drug testing in Kenya. She is 
awaiting further review and testing, as is the protocol. For more

- Amy Hastings, who is training in Providence, Rhode Island, is a drop from 
the field due to her marathon preparation not proceeding as planned. "I am 
disappointed that my training has not progressed to where it needs to be to 
race well at the Boston Marathon," says Hastings. "The race is one I have 
always wanted to participate in, and I hope to compete on the historic 
Hopkinton to Boston course in the near future. I wish the best of luck to 
all of this year’s race participants."
