Press Release - Berlin Marathon - 7/8/22

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Top class race with Eliud Kipchoge and Guye Adola expected
                           at BMW BERLIN-MARATHON

On September 25, the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON 2022 will take place on the
streets of the German capital. The BMW BERLIN-MARATHON is one of the most
prestigious running events in the world. This year, the organisers of SCC
EVENTS are expecting over 45,000 runners from around 150 nations, which
will build on the successful numbers from before the COVID pandemic. In
addition to this trend-setting development for mass sports, SCC EVENTS is
also announcing an exciting scoop from the world of top sports today.

Double Olympic champion and defending champion at the start

With the double Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge (KEN) and the
winner of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON 2021 Guye Adola (ETH), two of the best
runners in the world will compete against each other at this year's BMW
BERLIN-MARATHON. The Kenyan Kipchoge and the Ethiopian Adola already fought
an impressive duel in 2017. Adola brought Kipchoge close to the brink of
defeat. The pictures of the gripping final on the last kilometres at the
Brandenburg Gate went around the globe and thrilled the sports community
(have a look here).

Eliud Kipchoge appreciates the Berlin course

This year, a similarly exciting race is expected. With the words, "Berlin
is the fastest course, it's where a human being can showcase its potential
to push the limits," Kipchoge clearly appreciates the Berlin course and
what is possible on it. After all, the Kenyan has already won three times
on the Spree River and set the current marathon world record here in 2018
with 2:01:39 hours. The 37-year-old proved that he is in good shape at the
Tokyo Marathon in the spring, which he won with a new course record in
2:02:40 hours.

Guye Adola wants to defend his title with a time under 2:03

Adola also knows about the advantages of the Berlin course and formulates a
clear target for himself: "I am very happy to be back at the BMW
BERLIN-MARATHON to defend my title from last year. I always have a good
feeling about the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON because it was my debut marathon, and
that time is still my personal best. This year I will try to run even
faster and achieve a time under 2:03:00 hours."

A great advert for running

The race director of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON Mark Milde is pleased about
the fact that he can welcome the two unique top-class runners Kipchoge and
Adola to the starting line. "We are very happy to see these exceptional
athletes running at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. Such a duel is also always
great advertising for running in general. Who will ultimately cross the
finish line as the winner will be revealed on September 25th. The Berlin
public will be cheering on all participants, whether they are double
Olympic champions or marathon novices."

The registration to raffle for the 48th BMW BERLIN-MARATHON is closed.
Nevertheless there are ways for a safe bib. You still have the opportunity
to secure your starting place for the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON 2022 through our
charity partners and tour operators.
