Press Release - Belfast City Marathon - 5/7/18

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

              Kenyan Koech claims victory at Belfast City Marathon  

On May Day Monday 7th May 2018, close to 17,000 participants took part in 
the 37th Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon.  Including the Marathon Run 
and Wheelchair Race, Marathon Team Relay, 8 Mile Walk and Fun Run.   

The event is delighted to see a big surge in the number of marathon entries 
this year with around 3,000 taking on 26.2 miles of Belfast.  2018 has also 
seen an increase of Team Relay participants, with around 2,200 "five 
person" relay teams signed up this year.

This was a great day for the Kenyan's with Eric Koech winning the 37th Deep 
RiverRock Belfast City Marathon in a time of 2.18.20.  Followed by Danu 
Tanui in second place for the consecutive year, achieving a time of 
2.20.20.  Favourite for this year hoping for a 4th victory at the Belfast 
City Marathon was Joel Kipsang Kositany in 2.23.41.

For the ladies, Laura Graham was hopeful for a second win this year after 
her triumph in 2017 but was missed out by a matter of minutes with Kenyan 
Caroline Jepchirchir coming in first at 2.41.17.  Kilkeel athlete Laura 
arrived in second place in 2.43.34 and our third place went to Christina 
Bogomiakora in 2.46.43.

For the Marathon Wheelchair Race, Paul Hannon claimed victory in a time of 
2.07.23 and Karol Doherty finished in second place in 2.46.34.

The Top 100 marathon finishers are represented here now.  A full list of 
the results from today will be available on the Belfast Live website this 
evening at wwww.belfastlive.co.uk and on the Belfast City Marathon website 
at www.belfastcitymarathon.com on Tuesday 8th May.
