"Beautiful, mostly, flat, fast, HOT!" (about: 2024)

This was my first Run The River & it didn't disappoint. The Kennewick area is beautiful & the day dawned cool, clear & breezy, promising a fast time. The course gets ugly as it crosses the Columbia over 2 bridges, so you have thundering road noise instead of bird song. Support was good, but there's no crowd of supporters egging you on.

What IS a problem is the heat. Up to 14 miles there was a cooling breeze, but then it simply dropped away & it got hotter & hotter. Next year I'll take the 7am start to help avoid this because I reckon I lost a good 20 mins due to having to go slower.

This race should definitely be on your list.

"Not many fans, but a great event" (about: 2024)

Only in its second year, this race is top-notch in terms of runner experience. The course along the Columbia River is beautiful. It is flat and fast, if that's what you want, and well-supported with aid stations. Volunteers are well-placed at potentially tricky spots. Swag (1/4 zip, medal, bag) was great. There weren't many fans along the route, but there were lots of locals walking dogs, so that made up for it. I also spotted a heron and perhaps a woodchuck along the course, so that was cool. I would highly recommend it, whether you're a veteran or a first-timer.
