"Beuatiful Course; Wonderful Community" (about: 2023)
50+ previous marathons
| 1 Sackets Harbor Marathon & Half Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Beautiful small marathon in a spectacular area. Water stops were well manned by the community with great enthusiasm. After completing 64 marathons, this was the first one I did't finish. The hot sun, high temps plus humidity and the unshaded stretch through the farms affected me. There was no ice, hose or popsicles available to cool us down. I dropped out at 25.4 miles at our apartment because I was concerned about not only finishing but then needing to walk back to lodging. I think ice on the course would save ice in the medical tent. Otherwise, a wonderful race. | |

"well organized local marathon" (about: 2023)
4-5 previous marathons
| 1 Sackets Harbor Marathon & Half Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 very well organized for a smaller local marathon. good amount of water stations. course is more varied than you would expect between the harbor/residential areas/farmland. overall elevation gain in the first half is only noticeable in a few places and if you go out conservatively gives you a good opportunity to negative split taking advantage of the net downhill on the way back to the finish. have to manage expectations given the race's size; there were roughly 300 marathoners in the inaugural year which means you might find yourself alone for stretches of the race |
