"An enjoyable & well-organised autumn marathon" (about: 2023)

I took the Hokuriku shinkansen from Osaka to Kanazawa on Saturday morning before the marathon day. The 'Welcome Messe' where runners collected their running numbers & t shirts was conveniently located at the basement of Motenashi Dome, Kanazawa JR Station. I also bought a bus ticket at the marathon expo that would take me from Kanazawa JR to the start point the following day.

The baggage deposit on Sunday morning was at the tree-lined Ohori Street near the start line. The beautiful autumn scenery & gentle morning sun provided great inspiration for the run & photography.

The full marathon started promptly at 8.30am. Pace setters arrived in groups from 3 to 7 hours. The temperature was 10°C at the start & 15°C at midday. Distance markers prominently appeared every km. There were 15 refreshment stations, 8 with sports drinks & 6 with food. The Tabemasshi (food) stations were well stocked, and they promote the food culture of Ishikawa & Kanazawa. Ishikawa onigiri (rice balls), Hyakumangoku sweets & Kanazawa curry helped runners refuel during the run. Energy bars were also given out. The cheer support was excellent & there were percussion & dance groups.

The finish line was at Ishikawa's Ryokuchi Stadium where baggage collection was orderly managed. There was also a free bus service back to Kanazawa JR. This is a highly recommend marathon showcasing Japanese clockwork organisation & I would love to run it again.
