COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I ran the half marathon but went with a friend who ran the full and actually won. The race is awesome, the course is tough, the community is magnificent. Definitely recommend running this one. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I did this as a 50 state, spur of the moment race & was really touched by the tremendous effort race organizers and towns put into making the course welcoming and safe. There were literally thousands of traffic cones blocking off an entire lane of traffic for the entire course. It felt like the area really wanted us there, even though we were just 220 people total (35 in the full). Every volunteer or cheering bystander seemed to care about our experience. There were plenty of porto potties along the route and enough aid stations, though, bring your own gel in case they run out. It is a course for those who can run in solitude and tackle long hills. But, the ever-changing surroundings made it very memorable. Spectators were few, but always as nice as could be, and, the police manned every road crossing. The finish, over the Tennessee River, up and down a long bridge w/ nothing but one's own thoughts about the miles and the hills just overcome was very special. In the big city marathons, the hoopla is great but LoCo afforded a chance to contemplate how much a tough 26.2 finish means. The final 200 meters was a fantastic, exuberant small town welcome w/ cowbells and everyone hollering as the few full marathoners flew down the bridge w/ a pumpin' DJ to help our kick. Award ceremony for the tiny full field was absolutely lovely, with all runners congratulating each other and the organizers making us all feel like winners. Well done LoCo & thanks! |
