"All the kids showed up!" (about: 2022)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Chiba Aqualine Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

Wanted to run at least one marathon during my vacation in Japan. Therefore, entered the lottery for two. Got into them both. Ran Yokohama Marathon (21,000 runners) on 10/30/22 and Aqualine (17,000 runners) on 11/6/22. If given the choice between the two would recommend Aqualine.

Course has an out and back portion which extends part of the way across Tokyo Bay on bridge/tunnel (The Aqualine, for whichever the race is named). Turn around is just before bridge becomes tunnel. Hence, unless you happen to be winning the race you should see the leader before you make the turn. Thought this part, running above the water with a view of the city, was quite fun despite the fact there were no spectators except for at the turn around.

Fans on the non-bridge part of the race are incredible. Pretty sure every teacher in Kisarazu told their students, "As I am sure you all know, our town will be hosting a marathon on Sunday. Come and cheer on the runners." Every student responded, "We'll be there."

Of interest:

"Ganbatte" or "Ganbatte Kudasai" = do your best/don't give up (please)

The red dog on the t-shirt is Chiba-kun, the mascot of Chiba Prefecture. When looked at from the side Chiba-kun is the same shape as Chiba Prefecture.

This race is in the Prefecture of Chiba, not the city of Chiba, which is the capital of Chiba Prefecture.
