"Great run in a great city" (about: 2018)

A wonderful run along the mediteranian sea and in the old parts of Malaga. It is happening in December and I am looking forward to it this year. Hotels are cheap since it is the low season at the Costa del Sol. It is 12-18 degrees and very often sunshine.

I highly recommend this Marathon.

it's a almost flat marathon. The organization was very good. There were water and sport drink every 5 km. Maybe is a city with a young marathon and that's why there are few people cheering.

A really enjoyable marathon for the most part. A few of the final miles seemed to be following a complicated route. Good volunteers and drinks stations. Registration was well out of town, but not difficult to reach, however, I was not inclined to make the journey a second time to get to the pasta party. The weather was ideal for running; a cool start without being cold and a warming morning without becoming hot. Many pleasing touches, including the inclusion of special-needs (M&F) giving out the medals. Detailed results were available via a different web-site. Photos were good, and videos for every start and finish minute was a new idea (to me). There seemed to be more than one web-site for the event and it could have been simpler. However, I had no problem entering, and received good communications. Running the first half with the half marathon runners made for plenty of company for 21k, but it got a bit 'lonely'towards the end (4hr30). This marathon merits much more support but I guess that with Valencia just one week earlier, it will struggle to grow. Only 2411 finishers in the full marathon, and less than 400 were ladies. To me this is an indication that they are not attracting the broad spectrum of participants, even though there is a generous 6hr limit. Very strongly contested at the sharp end. This was my 40th marathon and has to be one of my favourites. Location is great.

"Great December race under the Spanish sun" (about: 2018)

Malaga is a great race late in the year and a cool location for a weekend getaway!

This mid-sized marathon on a flat, fast course is ideal if you want to combine a well-organized race with an interesting location. Malaga in December offers X-Mas feeling with spring-like temparatures. Lots of culture and nightlife for after the race!

Volunteers are enthusiastic and super-friendly (one came after me with bananas after he saw that I missed the stand). The climate in early Dec was ideal (10 degree Celsius at the start, 20 at the finish), with a pretty scenic course along the coastline and in the historic center of Malaga. There are pockets of loud supporters along the course as well as life music. However, the marathon is not the only thing that is going on in Malaga. Lot's of christmas shoppers who hardly take notice of the runners.

Pros:
+ overall organization
+ very helpful volunteers
+ flat and (mostly) scenic course
+ great location and climate

Cons:
- not for environmentalists: never seen so many plastic bottles in my life (0,33 cl)
- Expo is outside of center and semi-interesting (I was done in 15 mins)
- I did not get my net time in the official results, only gross time

I would run this fun December race again.

This was my 200th marathon so it was going to be a special day for me however it turned out. The main things I can say about the event are these: 1. If you can work out how to get to the race expo on public transport you are clearly going to be up to most challenges that life throws at you. 2. The spectators are great, noisy and fun but the course is not the most interesting apart from the final kilometre. 3. Apart from during the race itself Malaga was curiously devoid of runners, but then 3000 miraculously appeared for the race. 4. Malaga has great nightlife for celebrating after the marathon.

"excellent race" (about: 2015)

This is a relatively small ( ca.3000 runners) and new (6th edition) marathon. The course was optimal, almost flat, very few inclinations and even those were short and very mild. In general the course was very attractive- along the sea, in residential quarters, and in the centre. Only ca. 4-5 km led through a sort of 'out of the city' environment (around the Palacio de los Deportes). Plenty of refreshment points- water (plastic cups and bottles, energy drinks, later in the race fruit as well).
I ran with pacemakers for 3h, those were excellent- even pace all the time, encouraging people, etc.
Weather- windless, ca.14C at the start at 8.30h and ca. 18-19C at the finish ca. 3hours later.
Spectators- larger group only at the start and at the finish(friends, relatives), along the course very few of them, which was not a problem for me but some might mind it.Therefore I only give two stars for this aspect.
Organization of the race- flawless, very good and timely electronic communication both in Spanish and English, comprehensive web site also in English, registration was quick and the price appropriate (two technical t-shirts included in the price!). The expo is very small and far from the city but accessible by metro (I have given 4 stars only because it is so far from the city centre).
In general I can only recommend this marathon to everybody- beginners and advanced marathoners. It has an attractive course, is perfectly organized, and it is still more sport than commercial event, contrary to some large marathons.
