Love the small marathons! This one has a flat course around Grand Lake. After mile 10, you split from the Half runners and head out to the corn fields. The water stops are perfect and comical which makes up for scarce spectator support. This year was warm and several farmers fertilized, the poop smell was tough but you get used to it. Miles 21- finish are back at the lake and the beer at the end was awesome! The award plaques were nice too!

Registration and check in was easy and convenient. Nice tech shirt and goody bag. It was easy to find all locations with plenty of readily available parking at the fairgrounds, buses ran regularly. The pasta dinner was good. Overnight accommodations were limited so book them early. Camping was available at the fairgrounds with a nice bath house and showers before and after the race. The course is mostly flat with only small short hills, in and out of the city/country. Small race so lots of elbow space to relax and run in. Aid stations were as marked well staffed and stocked. Most of the pace runners were on schedule at the finishline. Nice finishers medal and post race party. Timers stayed open for the late finishers. Good music and food. Great value. Will definitely run this race again next year!

An extremely well organized event running along a beautiful course of the lake, easy rolling hills, state park, and a couple corn and bean fields. Many positive people cheering you on both from out of town and the locals. Enjoyed the Navy personnel awarding the medals to finishers, apparently even waiting until the very last competitor. It was an honor.

Love the course. The first ten miles are beautiful. The next ten miles are nice, on back country roads. The final stretch back to town is stunning. Only complaint I'd have about the course is that it is obvious that Mercer County does not pick up their road kill. It might be worth giving someone $20 and a shovel the week before the race to clean up a bit; just throw it off the roadway. I will do this one again for sure. They did a great job on organization, and for a small town race, the spectators and support was great.

"More corn than water" (about: 2014)

Course was not on lake as much as described. Mostly saw water at beginning and end. Run through state park was nice, but too many long straight stretches through corn so felt like running through a corn maze. Crowd suport was good throughout. Website said that YMCA would have after race showers & confirmed this with race director at packet pickup, but sign on door said 'closed due to marathon' - the irony. Saw several others looking for them, too. Kinda important when facing a 13 hour drive home.
