"fantastic course" (about: 2017)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 New Forest Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 2

This is a delightful race. Well organised and efficiently run.

The course is a big draw with amazing experiences like running alongside the wild new forest ponies or through ancient woodland. There are road sections and bits through built up areas but for a fabulous experience of rural Britain at its best come along.

"Nice course, good for a PB" (about: 2004)

First Marathon

I did the half marathon. Undulating course with equal ups and downs. The weather was good, not too warm, little breeze. I managed to knock 6 minutes off my previous time.

I have fond memories of this race. Its pretty fast, a scenic course and makes a nice contrast to city marathons.

"Nice Course - But maybe I spoilt." (about: 2001)

I ran this race in 2001.

The weather was good - albeit a bit cold waiting for the start. I found the organisation generally good and it was quite well supported although there were some large gaps with absolutely no support at all. It gave me the impression that we were imposing on quite a lot of people, particularly the long line of cars lined up waiting for the runners to pass. They all appeared to be thinking why can't they go and do this elsewhere?

The course was nice but having read the write ups before hand I was expecting a little bit more. But living in Devon and having the chance to run on Dartmoor etc. this doesn't compare.

Run it if you want to get a good time - downside is the time of year can sometimes give you too good weather and the course is quite crowded for the number of runners.

"Lovely Course, Wrong Time of Day" (about: 2000)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 1

The race starts at 11AM which meant that we were all running through the hottest part of the day, which wasn't ideal.
The course itself is very interesting. One lap through the beautiful New Forest area.
The first half is the best part through some lovely little villages and along some roads which are shaded and even a bit off-road through the forest itself.
The second half is where you start to come out into the open more.
It is still fairly flat with only a few undulations but nothing too severe.
The marshalling and back up was fine. The race strats and finishes at a Leisure Centre which had adequate facilities. All in all, an attractive race which could only be improved, in my view, by starting at an earlier time.
