NASCAR's Waltrip to compete in Vegas marathon for charity

Michael Waltrip, two time Daytona 500 winner, will race in the Las Vegas Marathon on Jan. 30, 2005 in an effort to raise $1 million for "Operation Marathon, Going the Distance for Kids."  Operation Marathon's profits will help fund the Victory Junction Gang Camp, an organization founded to create enriching experiences for children, and named Proud Charity of the Las Vegas Marathon.  Waltrip hopes to raise public awareness of Operation Marathon, the Victory Junction Gang Camp, and the Las Vegas Marathon.

Micahel Waltrip announced that he plans to raise $1 million for the Victory Gang Youth Camp by competing in the Las Vegas Marathon on January 30, 2005.  Waltrip has run three previous marathons, but plans to shoot for a PR of under four hours at Las Vegas.

Kevin Herd crossed the finish line for the first time in his life Sunday. There were media photographers, cheering fans and even a tape across the finish line waiting for him to break.
