COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I have just finished this amazing marathon and I can give just one advise: just run it. And this comes from someone that did not get a BQ or even a PR. The organization could not be better, the support is huge in critical points to keeps you up (Mike, my uber driver recognized me, what else can you ask for) and the course is beautiful. The hills? Hills. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I cannot say enough good things about this race. Steamtown is the perfect size race. They have all the amenities of a large marathon without all the traffic and wait times. It was very well run, great course, people were nice, and very organized with the shuttle/start. And you get to wait inside the school and stay warm prior to the start!!!! The course is definitely a PR course and can be very fast as the majority of the race is down hill. But the three hills at the end can be very challenging. Make sure you leave something in the tank. | |

Great fall weather and great spectators for this race! This was one for the bucket list! I plan on running this race every year! See you next year! | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I cannot say enough good things about this race. I would say them even if I had not qualified for Boston by more than 10 minutes and taken more than 30 minutes off my PR. Most of that was my coach, but some of that was the course and the race experience. " Mid-size race with no crowding after first miles " Although the final hills were no fun, the downhill course overall was great - Panel discussion and Q&A the day before on optimizing your performance on the course definitely helped me " Reasonable drive from DC " Beautiful fall foliage for much of the race " Great crowd support for a mid-size race " Easiest packet pick-up ever " Wonderful race organization with extras - Fabulously funny and useful emails from the assistant race director - Mailed us our race packets (not bibs) - Had copies of directions for race at Expo and other useful printouts - Tourism bureau sent us info, making me feel very welcome " Indoor waiting at the high school with cheerleaders welcoming us and other students making sure we got where we needed to be " Parked a few blocks from the finish " Great shirt, medal and other small token " Discounts at local restaurants and sites, including free admit to Steamtown historic site and the trolley museum in Scranton | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I ran Steamtown with a bunch of friends in 2014. The weather was perfect, the scenery was gorgeous, the course was challenging, the organization was impeccable and the support (volunteer and spectator) was exemplary. I PR'd, my friend that I ran with PR'd, and another friend who came up with us PR'd and BQ'd. Lots of wonderful restaurants in the Scranton area. This is one I plan to do again with a few more days for eating. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 First of all, this was just an all around great race. As most others have mentioned, the pre-race e-mails were hilarious but also informative and really helped me feel connected to this race. I couldn't wait to get the next e-mail update to see what Jim would have to say next! The race is very well organized and this can be a very fast course if you train and run it properly. I heeded their advice and ran the downhill portion easy which gave me more energy to tackle the 2nd half. There are some tough hills at the end but if you take advantage and relax on the many downhill sections you will have the energy to get through those last few hills. Spectators were wonderful as well as the volunteers. One huge advantage with this race is being able to wait in the school (warm and protected from the elements) prior to the start. It was so wonderful to be greeted at the school with such enthusiasm from the HS kids. This race also donates a lot of $$ to St. Joseph's Center - yet another reason why this race is so great. All kinds of food at the end...pizza, pierogis even! Free post-race massages! What else can I say? Go run this one! | |

The crowds, course, amenities, and organization were impeccable. In every picture I am smiling. That says a whole lot about the joy I felt running this race. | |

"A Real Good Downer" (about: 2014)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 I would sign up again just for the emails. All volunteer RD and organizers gave us everthing we needed for a great day, and even told us how to run the course. No mystery, take it easy for the first steep 6, then pick it up. I managed a 2min negative split. I would suggest wearing your Hokas to float you along. Thanks for a great race and a Stress free BQ! |
