"Great small marathon" (about: 2014)

Very well organized. And small. I parked literally 50 yards from the start line. Neat finish in the stadium. Plenty of well stocked water stops, a couple had bananas too. Pretty course along the river, very well marked with signs. The course is flat, and I pr'd with a time just under four hours. But it was an unseasonably warm day, and humid, with full sun. Race started out at 45 degrees, but for the last part of my race it was mid 60s and very sunny, with not much shade on the course. I always skip the post race party, so can't comment on that. But i will definitely be back next year, and hopefully it will be a touch cooler.

"Overall disappointed" (about: 2013)

This was my first marathon. I guess I expected a lot more for an ' organized' event. When reading over things, it said that there would be plenty of water and Gatorade stops. It said that there would be fruit. There was watered down Gatorade at some stops, and water at others. I didn't receive or even see any fruit other than the peels on the side of the ground from what others before me had. The mile markers were misplaced, upside down, knocked over. At two different times, I didn't even know which way to go on the path. I didn't take a fuel belt, as I thought, from reading, that there would be more available.

"well run small race, nice course" (about: 2013)

I found the course, parking, organization to be great. Loved the start and finish proximity to parking. very easy to get in and out after also. Food and activity after race was great, along with cash door prizes for random runners.

Course itself was pretty flat with nice run along the river. Has a small feel and enjoy this much more than the larger races. If you want the crowds and big expo, look elsewhere, but if you want a nice course and enjoy running, great race to attend.

"very nice experience" (about: 2013)

I picked Fort Worth for my Texas marathon bc it fit my schedule. Glad I did. Small marathon, plenty of parking and restrooms, good organization, scenic course mostly by river and some city streets, mostly flat, plenty of water stops, and good refreshements afterwards. A lot of the course was concrete trail but much of the time you could run on the side with grass or crushed stone. Packet pick up was easy but no expo. There were only a few family cheering areas due to the trail so the fan support was sparse. Weather was perfect 50's overcast, light wind! And the holiday weekend (Veterans Day) helped me not miss any time from work. Awards went quickly and most stayed to see who won the money! Enjoyed running Fort Worth and eating at the Stockyards!

"Great race" (about: 2013)

I am from Ft. Worth so i may be biased.... But this was a great race! It was fairly small. I think there were just under 300 who finished the full marathon. It happened to be perfect race weather which made the race even more enjoyable. It was in the mid 50s, 5 MPH wind, and about 10 min of a light drizzle. The course is out and back but I didn't mind that at all. There was a decent amount of spectators given the size of the race. There were fajitas and pasta at the finish line amongst other typical post-race foods. I waited in line for only 20 min for a massage that was totally worth it! The finisher medal is actually a belt buckle which is kinda cool. I prefer smaller races and I will definitely run this one again!

"Weird vibe on this race for the early start group" (about: 2013)

It's was strange to arrive at the race site 30 minutes before the designated early start and see nothing set up in the way of lights, timing mats or even a starting line. Instead at the top of the hour our bib numbers were taken down and we were sent off. There were no course marshals or any water stops over the entire course for the early starters. And I don't mean for the first hour, as we had been warned, I mean none period.

Near the turn-around point on this out and back course a local runner was apologetically handing up water and his own Gatorade when I came through, even though he was in no way affiliated with the event. I saw no one with the race until well after the marathon half way point. At about 3 hours on course a student cheering section had purchased Gatorade with their own money or I wouldn't have gotten anything until the stops that were set up for the half runners. What I found from those stops was more tinged water than sports drink. There were some fruit hand ups which helped a lot under the circumstances.

The course is an okay out-and-back following the Trinity River but it is really narrow for any kind of passing other than single file. It would be great for training runs or cross training days on the bike. As such you also shared the course with the Sunday morning locals, including area cyclists. There is gravel trail which borders a lot of the course so it could be used to ease some of the congestion but it often did not correspond well to the actual course. Once merging with the half runners it was box car crowded unless you veered off where you could onto the gravel.

Other than in a couple of designated and boisterous cheering sections there was not a living soul stirring on the marathon course unless you came upon a cyclist, dog walker or area runner.

There was only bottled water on ice that I could see at the finish, but it was extremely crowded making it hard to move around and see. There were also collapsed runners which I am sure added to the finish chute congestion and chaos. Apparently anything else was only available on the venue's food court which was wall-to-wall packed and not moving when I tried to find something better for one of the downed and distressed runners.

From talking to the locals, including the one who apologized on course, this event has (and I quote) 'a real hit and miss reputation'. From what I could see coming in I am sure the half runners for the most part would likely love it unless the crowded course did not work for them. For my part I would definitely have to chalk this up as much more of a miss than a hit and won't be running it again. YMMV but if you plan to run the full, I would also plan to wear a fuel belt.

"Improvements finally made!" (about: 2013)

I had sworn off this race but decided to give it another chance since it's local and fit my schedule nicely. I'm glad I did, it was well organized overall this year. Though I've heard consistent complaints about lack of water stops for the past 3 years.

This is a small marathon; don't expect many spectators for most of the course. The course is pretty flat overall and for a lot of it there's a dirt/gravel path you can run along.

My one gripe: as a faster marathoner I had to weave through swarms of half marathoners for the final 6.5 miles. Because the course is an out and back, for a few of the miles I was both running against the half marathoners and passing the ones who'd already turned around. I think delaying the half for a full hour after the full started compounded the problem. If the half started just 10 or 15 minutes after the full I think I would have not had to run against runners in both directions nearly as much.

Any problems that apparently existed last year were completely fixed in this year's race. The water stops were plentiful and well stocked with enthusiastic volunteers, and the course was well marked. The race had a very nice start/finish area at the baseball stadium with good food, easy parking, plenty of room to hang out, and real bathrooms! The course was nice and uncrowded. Would definitely recommend and run again.

Had no problems whatsoever! Easy race, key drop was cool. Food was good, sunny... Was awesome and it should be a bigger race with more people. The region needs to know about this one. Awesome! Thanks for your labor of love Steve.

I have been out at this race 4 yrs in a row and it just keeps getting better. Got a little hot this year and really effected my time. Had plenty of water on the course even with the heat. Ran with six friends and all had a great experience and would do it again!
