Michael Wardian Goe For United States 50K Record

Winona Lake, Indiana: Michael Wardian of Alexandria, Virginia will attempt
to break the United States 50K record at the fifth annual Lake City
International Marathon on Saturday, Sept. 13. Wardian has already won (1)
the USA National 50K Championships in a course record and USA National
Championship in a record time of 2:55:05, (2) the USA National 100K
Championships in a course record 6:56:57, and (3) the USA National 50 Mile
Trail Championships in the third fastest time on the course (6:52:50).

Wardian will speak at the pre-race pasta dinner, 6 PM Friday, Sept. 12 at
New Life Christian Church, 744 S. County Road 325E, just north of US 30.
The general public is invited to join marathon participants to hear Wardian
speak about setting goals and trying to achieve them. He also plans to talk
about his upcoming races including the 100K Worlds, the Marathon Des Sables
and the Comrades (held in South Africa, the Comrades is known as the
world's oldest and largest ultra marathon). Following questions from the
audience, Wardian will be available for interviews.

The Lake City International Marathon consists of three races run, a
half-marathon, marathon and 50K, run concurrently over the streets and
through the Heritage Trail of Winona Lake. The course has been certified
and sanctioned by the United States Track and Field Association and is a
qualifier for the 2009 Boston Marathon. The amenities for runners include
pre-race and post race meals, post race massage and race photographs.

The starting time for the marathon and 50K race is 7 AM with both the
starting and finishing lines located at Winona Lake Park near the bridge
(1600 Park Avenue). Additional information, including course maps and a
