For nearly five decades, runners, walkers, and families have gathered in the heart of Billings to kick off Father’s Day weekend with one of the city’s most cherished traditions, the Heart & Sole Run.
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, the 47th Annual Heart & Sole Run returns, bringing the community together for a morning focused on health, family, and giving back. What began as a small local event has grown into one of Billings’ most anticipated summer races, welcoming participants of all ages and abilities.

Participants can choose from three distances, making the event accessible whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply enjoying a morning outdoors with family:
- 2-Mile Health Walk
- 5K Run
- 10K Run — RRCA Montana State Championship
The race offers a welcoming and energetic atmosphere that reflects the spirit of Billings. Runners will travel through tree-lined neighborhoods and city streets while enjoying the encouragement of volunteers and spectators along the route. One of the most memorable parts of the course comes as runners make their way through the parking garage on the campus of Montana State University Billings, a unique section that has become a favorite feature of the race and adds a fun twist to the course.
Competitive runners will find plenty of incentive as well. Awards will be presented to overall winners, Masters, Super Masters, and the top five finishers in each age group receive medals recognizing those performances.
The race finishes in style at Dehler Park, home of the Billings Mustangs minor league baseball team, where participants will be welcomed by the energy of the finish line celebration. But the excitement continues well beyond the race itself. Following the run, participants and spectators can enjoy the Montana Active Life Festival, a free community event open to the public. The festival features music, interactive health and fitness booths, family activities, and kid-friendly attractions. Young runners can take part in the popular FREE Run the Bases event, giving them the chance to step onto the baseball field at Dehler Park.

Returning again this year is the Car and Bike Show, where participants can explore an impressive lineup of classic and modern cars and motorcycles displayed outside the stadium — a perfect addition to Father’s Day weekend festivities. For many participants, the Heart & Sole Run is more than just a race. It’s a chance to spend meaningful time with family, celebrate health and fitness, and connect with the Billings community. Proceeds from the event support the Billings Family YMCA and the development of local trail systems, helping expand opportunities for active living throughout the region.
Whether you’re racing for a new personal record, walking with family, or simply looking for a fun and meaningful way to start Father’s Day weekend, the Heart & Sole Run offers an experience that brings the entire community together.
