I very nice event in the center of the Mexican coastal town of Mazatlan. There's a 5K & 10K on Saturday, and a Half Marathon and Full Marathon on Sunday. A scenic course with much of it run along the shore and Malecon on completely shut down roads. Accurately measured with KM marks. Excellent aid. Nice medal, Adidas tech shirt, goodie sling bag. Entry fee was only U$40...a great bargin. Loved the town.

I did the 10K and half marathon. It was a great experience. The crowd was great and the course was wonderful. My plan for next year is to do the marathon.

My husband and I happened to be down there during the marathon and ran the 1/2. It was very organized - great water stations, and wonderful crowd. If you want to do a marathon in Mexico, this is it!

Enjoyed the race; there was an English speaking table for registration if needed. Crowds were very vocal on encouragement for all of the runners. Weather was hot but the volunteers were handing out plastic bags of water and Powerade. You just tear the bags open with your teeth as you are runnning. Drink the Powerade and pour the water over your head. Plan on doing this one again.

The location of the marathon was fabulous and the attention that the runners got was great. I love all the water stations and the fact that the roads were closed for the runners. Best marathon I ever ran!

I was doing well eating everything without getting sick for 3 days, then the night before the race I began having explosive diarrhea on the hour, pretty much all night. Advice: hoard Gatorade from the expo, because you can't buy it at 3am, and they don't provide it at the start line. I managed to bum some Immodium from a Brit, but maybe it would've stopped anyways. Despite the hot weather and my initial dehydration, I managed to finish less than 14 minutes off my PR. I must've looked very ill, however, and they forced me into the medical tent and plastered me with ice packs long after I started shivering, and had to argue with them that I didn't need that anymore (I'm an ER doc). The expo and free pre-race dinner was interesting and unique for the North American marathoner--lots of young girls in tight clothes representing all the sponsors, who gave out lots of stuff--I got double the $12 entry fee in just Nivea sunblock. The course was mainly out and back along the beach, and got hot quickly. Mazatlan is a little touristy for my tastes, but I stayed in the less commercial old section of town, and hey, sunsets on the beach are hard to beat.
