A Runner from Houston, Texas (5/16/00)
I ran this race not expecting it to be a lot. I had run the San Antonio Marathon there just 3 months earlier. It was surprisingly one of the best kept secrets around Texas. I would estimate there were about 500 runners there that day. The weather stayed cool and overcast for us, a plus, and there were plenty of water stations and crowd support to keep you running. The course is a two loop course that stays within the confines of Ft. Sam Houston. It is a pretty course and has had good thought put to it so it isn't just a flat run around the base. It supports the Army, and being a verteran of that branch of the service I was as proud to have run in this race as ex-Marines are to run the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington. I hope attendance picks up for this marathon, this year was the 6th running, and I will be back again.
