M. C. from Florida (7/2/2018) "I really enjoyed this race!" (about: 2018) 50+ previous marathons \| 1 Angel Fire Adventure Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 This was an excellent race. I have run over 50 marathons, in over 40 states (yes, a MM and 50-stater), so I have some perspective. If you're looking for a nice, scenic, challenging, easy to access course, this is a great one. Let me get this out of the way: The 2017 downer review is from someone who had no clue. If you think you're headed to 8500'+ in the mountains for the crowd support, you're better off staying in NY. That's not what these mountain races are, whether you're in the west or the east. Angel Fire is a ski town, which means that in June/July it's pretty quiet. The race is run on two local roads just off the ski resort. We rented a condo (Benchmark) that turned out to be a 2 minute walk to the start line. Perfect. The full marathon is two different out and backs. Both are run on the sides of roads, with lots of space to run and no threat from traffic. The first out and back (the half marathon course) has some gentle hills. The second has one serious climb and a lot of gentle changes. I completely enjoyed the race. The start was very convenient. The aid stations were well stocked and nicely spaced on both halves. Because they're two out and backs, if you're paying attention, you know exactly where each station is on the way back each time. The scenery was great. The mountains are a beautiful sight, the whole way. The hills were a challenge, that's for sure. So was the elevation. But, hey, I'm from Florida and I did it. You just dial back your target pace and enjoy. Forget PR'ing. Just enjoy the challenge. No, there's no crowd support. I gave it a 3, though, because there should be no expectation of crowd support in a tiny town in the mountains. It is what it should be. The medal was a total surprise. It's nice! For such a small race, I expected a generic trinket. It's great. If you're someone who needs the roar of a crowd to get through a marathon, this race isn't for you. If you're looking for a safe, challenging course in a beautiful setting, with extremely easy access, come here. I'm glad I did. I hope the running community supports this race for years to come.

C. from New York (10/30/2017) "Boring and uninspiring" (about: 2017) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Angel Fire Adventure Marathon COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 1 This is my least favorite of all the marathons I've run so far. The route is boring: two out-n-backs with no turns, on the shoulder of a highway. The few volunteers on the course were there in body but not spirit, and the spectators were absent all together. No fanfare at all at the finish line. Won't be back.

(about: 2017) 4-5 previous marathons \| 1 Angel Fire Adventure Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Running at elevation was a challenge but great course support for participants which made it easier. Water, Ultima Replenisher and Pepsi were at every aid station, in addition they had Clif Shock Blocks or Fruit at alternating stations. Good positioning of the porto potties, a concern from previous reviews. Volunteers were friendly and great - all in all a great trip to New Mexico and a race I would travel for again.

Small field, great scenery, fabulous energy and support from the community. While there were a few issues (port-a-potties) along the course, I know they will be fixed next year. I can't wait to get back up to Angel Fire next year!

(about: 2015) 11-50 previous marathons COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 The Course was an out and back with 1/2 marathoners and then another out and back with marathoners. This elevation in Angel Fire is quite high, so keep that in consideration when you sign up, it might not be the fastest time you've ever had. Angel Fire is a great family town and a good place to vacation! I thought it was great to have the race on 4th of July. The town celebrates the holiday with awesome fireworks show and parade! The views are amazing... take it all in. Be sure you know where the start line is, it was a little hard for us to find in the morning. But the goodies at the end were great, a well put on event!

S. from TEXAS (10/27/2015) "Great weather, but event was done 'on the cheap'" (about: 2015) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Angel Fire Adventure Marathon COURSE: 1 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 I ran the full in the inaugural event. There were no port-a-potties on the course. The first half of the marathon and the entire half-marathon were on the shoulder of a busy road with lots of cars and lots of noise. The second half of the full was in the mountains and (hills) and was a great venue. The aid stops had only water and PowerAde; nothing to eat. The volunteers were great. This was my 11th marathon and was easily the most provincial. As I know the organizer received a LOT of complaints, I know things will be better next time; so I'd consider doing it again.

Beautiful course and nice weather. Elevation and some big hills make it a really tough onebest to slow down and take in the scenery.
