"Sorry I ran this event" (about: 2018)

This is by far the worst event I have run out of my 60+ marathons. The course is aweful. It is a mix of cement and dirt waste lands. There are so few runners that you are by yourself which is fine but if anything happens to you, there is no one to help. You really should have people on bikes checking on runners when it is that hot out. There is no shade on the course what so ever and with temps reaching 90+ in the end, and being told at aid stations I could only have one glass of water because they were running out, it was unacceptable. It is also disappointing when you finish to see them tearing down when you beat the cut off by an hour and a half. Food and any kind of celebration was non-existent. You feel like a burden the way you are treated when you try to find out your results. Colorado is a beautiful state and I have to believe there are so many better options than this lack luster event. No one seems to repeat it as was evident by the fact only one person was a returning runner. Very poorly organized and run!

"2018 All Out Fall Fest Marathon" (about: 2018)

Small race, I think around 47 participants for the full. Packet pick up was uneventful, but simple enough. I was pretty pleased that there were plenty of porta potties. The staggered start was nice as it didn't make the course too crowded and could see the runners from the other races on this out and back course.

The first half was nice and scenic in my opinion. The second half was rough, mostly concrete and not scenic af all. There was no shade and it got rough out there with the heat. The aid stations weren't spaced out too bad but would've been nice to have maybe some fruit?

I understand it was a small race but de-motivating to see that they were already tearing down the tent when i finished (around 5:07). Looked like there was a few food options, a few burritos and bagels.

Would not recommend if you need crowd support as there were no spectators. This race felt more like a training run than a marathon. However, this race did double nicely with the Cheyenne Marathon in Wyoming so if you're working towards the states, it works. Also, was pleased with the shirt and medal. Very nice.

"Well-organized race, but no spectators" (about: 2015)

This was my 18th marathon and a special memory because I ran it with my 13-year old son - his first. He and I appreciated the fact that there is no age requirement, unlike nearly every marathon and it made for a wonderful father-son experience training and running the race together.

The first half of the course was beautiful with a lot more variety in terrain and scenery that the course map implied. Staggering the starts for the full, half, 10K, and 5K was great, making the start line not crowded and giving the chance to see the other event runners as you passed them on the out-and-back course by Stanley Lake. I would give the first half of the course 4 or 5 stars. The second half of the course I found a bit dull compared to the first half. It was mostly flat, dusty, and there wasn't much to see.

Some races are described as having no spectators, but even those have at least a few. Other than the volunteers, I only saw 2 spectators on the entire course. That was fine for me because I was from out of town and don't need them to keep me going, but if you need moral support from lots of spectators to get you through, you'll have to recruit your own here. The volunteers who rang cow bells to ensure we went the right direction were enthusiastic and did an awesome job.

The course was well-marked with arrows showing the direction to go and barriers to show where not to go, even at junctions where it was fairly obvious. Aid stations were well stocked and the breakfast burritos at the end hit the spot well.

With the great organization of this race and the many related events put on by this group, I would expect this race to grow. Volunteers and runners were friendly as they usually are in a smaller race and confirmed my belief that smaller races are more rewarding experiences that big, massive ones. I would certainly recommend this race to families due to the various distances offered and to anyone looking for a good experience in Colorado.

"Small marathon that is well organized" (about: 2015)

I think this was the first year for the marathon. Overall, I think there were more volunteers than marathon runners.

The course provided a fair view of short-grass prairie habitat and followed along Big Dry Creek (which had water) and Standley Lake for quite a while. I saw 18 species of birds during the run and a bunch of prairie dogs. The course, however, appeared poorly designed for allowing spectators. Considering there were only 44 runners, there weren't many spectators trying though. Basically the volunteers were the only spectators.

My biggest complaint was the heat. There is very little shade on the course and it was unseasonably warm (hitting over 80 during my nearly 5 hour marathon). I also wish the aid stations had a 'food' option other than power cubes or whatever they are called. Something different near the 20th mile when folks may be walking anyway and an orange slice would be really welcome.
