"Fast and beautiful Italian marathon" (about: 2016)

| 3 Maratona di Reggio Emilias
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 If you want to run a late autumn marathon, this is the one for you. Well organized marathon, like many other races in Italy. Approximately 3000 participants all together (solely 42k event). The weather conditions are usually slightly lower, but very close to ideal (5C), and the course is, although not flat, quite fast. First half is slightly uphill (Inclination never exceeds 1-2%), then 10k of alternating ascends and descends, and the last 12k are nothing but downhill. I ran this marathon 3 times and twice have I ran my PB. Very beautiful scenery also, first 5 and last 3kms go through the center of the city, and in between you run through the beautiful countryside. Of course there aren't as many spectators as in major city marathons, but in every village along the course (there are quite many), you can expect long corrals of loud Italians :) If you come from Europe, you should definitely try this one. Among Italian marathons, I ran also in Rome and in Florence, and in my opinion Reggio Emillia offers an even better marathon experience. | |

"Fun race, slightly challenging course" (about: 2015)

| 1 Maratona di Reggio Emilia
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 I was looking for a race in late November/early December in Europe and this one popped up. There wasn't much information online but I decided to give it a try anyway. I was not disappointed. Reggio Emilia is a quaint, scenic town. The course ran through the countryside with rolling hills. The race was very well organized and had the best goody bags I've ever seen! Just over 3000 finishers in 2015. Not a lot of spectators along the course, but there were tons in Reggio Emilia for the start/finish and pockets of spectators along the way. The weather was cool and clear, the people were friendly. I would definitely recommend this race. |
