By far the best running experience I have ever had. Incredible marathon adventure at the bottom of the Earth! Great race organization, awesome race staff, fantastic weather in 2017 and the most friendly, eclectic, interesting and diverse group of runners ever. Set your sights on doing this one!

Antarctica is unlike any other place on this planet. The stark, naked landscape is one to be reckoned with. After being a participant and finisher in the White Continent Marathon on Friday, February 20, 2015, I can attest to the fact that this marathon was a most difficult one and really presented a challenge in terms of the terrain and the weather. I have run over 475 marathons and this marathon presented many challenges. Conditions were extremely bad - 33 degrees at the start at 5:45 am with a blizzard, snow, sleet, mud, ice, along the course not to mention the hills and the rocks. The wind picked up considerably along the course. It became extremely cold after the start, but this is Antarctica, and unless you have experienced it, words cannot describe the brutal conditions.
This truly was a trail run with rocks, hills and difficult conditions. However, this is Antarctica in the summer. Be prepared to sleep in tents, and do bring sleeping bags for zero degree weather. This marathon should not be one for first time marathoners.
The volunteers from the Chili base camp were excellent and provided support along with way with make-shift porta potties and hot drinks and soup. Seeing the penguins waddling around kept me going.
I cannot say enough good things about the support provided to us from the volunteers on the course. Antarctica is unlike any other place on this earth and until you experience it, my words will mean nothing. This marathon is not for the faint at heart. We were suppose to run this marathon on Sunday, but because of bad weather conditions, the airplane could not take us to King George Island until Thursday. Plan lots of extra time in case you cannot get out of Chile by plane because of weather problems. Marathon Adventures is the tour agent for this trip.

When opportunity knocks, I listen! Being part of Marathon Adventures 2014 White Continent/Punta Arenas Marathon trip, I had the privilege of traveling to the far reaches of the earth with this caring and dedicated team of experts in their field. Truly it was an experience I will remember and treasure always! From start to finish-literally-on the race course and off, the staff of Marathon Tours made me feel like my presence there mattered, and like my well-being was important.

Had there been any doubt in my mind at all about not finishing the race (there wasn't), it would have been their constant cheerleading and support that would-and did-see me, as well as the other 60+ runners, make it through the two almost back to back races in Antarctica & Punta Arenas, Chile. There aren't enough adjectives to describe this adventure, but one that comes to mind is STELLAR. Do yourself a favor-get out of your comfort zone, bury your hesitation, jump in with both feet, and let your legs take you on a trail into the great unknown. You'll be thanking Steve and his fabulous crew, too! So, <Ã<Ã<Ã as fast as you can to sign up for this amazing adventure. You'll be glad you dic!

If you ever dreamed of running on Antarctica, this is the best way to get it done. Steve and his crew go above and beyond to make sure everything within their power is right. Their attention to detail make this a trip not to be missed. Running with penguins may not always be possible, this is the way to get it done.

Steve and his crew make it look easy to organize a safe race in King George Island, Antarctica. If you want to have an adventure, then this is the race where the curious penguins watch you running your dream race and your running mates cheer you as do the loops. I am grateful to Steve and his team for making my dream race a success.

Starting a marathon 3.19 am is an experience in itself but doing it on Antarctica made the experience out of this world. Steve and his crew had learned from their experiences in 2013 and everything controllable went off without a hitch. The course is tough but you can only enjoy the experience. Then we had the marathon in Punta Arenas - with a view over the Magellan Strait - again everything went perfectly. Thanks Steve, Kurt, Colleen and Pam for an out of this world experience.

I did both the WCM ( Antarctica ) and the Punta Arenas ( Patagonia ) marathons in 2013 and 2014. Steve Hibbs and his team were great. Both Marathons were well organized. Antarctica was challenging, but what else would you expect. The visit to the Penquin Colony and the Torres Del Paine tours were great. This was one of the best trips I have ever taken

Kudos to the team at Marathon Adventures. I could not have asked for a better experience for this race and Punta Arenas (4 days later). While I get that there was some luck involved with the weather in Antarctica, the communication and flexibility was tremendous. The flight to the White Continent went just as planned with DAP. Steve and the staff learned a lot from the inaugural year, like the need to get things set up as quickly as possible to give the participants as much time to complete the race as possible (We all did!) The course was challenging with the gravel and rock surface, especially with the potential for being pulled out early if the weather turned (fortunately that never happened). The course was well marked and the gear tent was more than enough to store drop items for support. The post-race cocoa and cookies were well appreciated too. I'll give 5 stars to the spectator penguins on top of the rousing recommendation for this race.

"Terrific adventure at the end of the world" (about: 2013)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 White Continent Marathon

The course is a tough one, but I am from Colorado, so mud and ice and steep hills are par for the course here in our mountains. A lot of the other runners only trained on asphalt, so they found it challenging, which it was. I gave 5 stars for spectators because what race has penguins as greeters and onlookers?!! Seriously, Steve Hibbs is a class act as is his entire team. Helpful, friendly, accessible, organized, and determined to give the racers the experience they expect. We had some unknowns during our time there; somehow, Steve managed to pull it all together and make it happen. The race will only get better, I'm sure. If you plan on running a marathon in Antarctica, go with Steve and his team. You will have the experience of a lifetime.

For an inaugural marathon, the White Continent Marathon was very well organized. It was a challenging course with breathtaking views that made it almost a surreal experience. I am looking forward to going back next year!!
