L. from Oslo, Norway (3/2/2019) "Small marathon with multiple unique features" (about: 2017) 50+ previous marathons COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 If you want something new in your marathon running, Logan View is for you. Here are some features of this race, some of them unique: - Race packet with drawings and encouragements from the school kids. - Afternoon start. - Long stretches of gravel roads. - Railroad crossing (yes, you may have to wait...). - Running in the dark at the end of the race. - Shower and changing facilities at the school. - Food and refreshments inside the school after the race, served by the kids (this is the best one!). I ran this with my son, he is faster than me and ended up with a 2nd place. I struggled a bit at the end, and had to slow down. Running in the dark was not a problem, but I should have had gaitors - I got a fair amount of gravel in my shoes. After finishing, we couldn't find the showers, so one of the senior students took us - that gave us the ultimate Americana experience ever, as we walked through the school with hallways, lockers, basketball arena etc, it was like a film set from any high school movie (think Freaks&Geeks or Britney Spears 'Baby one more time'). After a nice shower and an execellent meal served by the kids, we drove away in with a thunderstorm in the distance, a spectacular final to a truly unique experience. We were visiting from Norway to see the eclipse (from Grand Island), and picked up a Nebraska marathon while we were there - this race is highly recommended.
r. s. from fernandina beach, florida (8/22/2018) "Intimately challenging - peaceful event" (about: 2018) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Logan View Raider Run COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 My biased preference is to participate in small (<200 runners) events. LVRR is a much different animal than Chicago, Boston, Tokyo; so my comments are in comparison to other small marathons. The course is rolling hills and mostly gravel/dirt country roads. There are plenty of packed tire tracks to run in, so there is no need to run great distances in loose gravel. (It was humid with no rain in 2018 so the dust was a bit bothersome as the very few cars (<5) drove by). M.H. of Ohio describes the course accurately: hills, don't expect a PR, do expect dirt to stick to sweaty shoes and skin, the course markings and signs made it easy to stay on course despite losing sight of the runners ahead of me. There were only a few spectators, but they often provided drinks, fruit, candy and comfort. I saw one person providing an ice pack for a cramped runner. Aid stations were ALL well stocked with water, sports drinks, et al. Only a few porta-potties along the course, but I NEVER saw anyone waiting to use one. The event is well above average because: 1) Every single volunteer and organizer I met was sincerely friendly and went out of their way to help make MY experience enjoyable...not one surly individual in the crowd. Often a volunteer would carry a choice of water or sports drink toward me as I approached an aid station. 2) Sunset provided an unmatched, surreal quality just as I was hitting miles 19-20. Just when the physical demands were increasing, the peaceful sunset just made it easy to finish the run. Hard to believe that other organizers have not caught onto this time slot. 3) It's great to be able to take a free shower after the run and before sitting down to an excellent post-run meal. These folks truly made me feel comfortable at every turn. Maybe after I complete my 50 states, I'll come back for another LVRR. I would highy recommend this marathon to anyone that might be looking for a 'vacation' from the larger cacophony runs. It's not an easy run, but it is relaxing.

H. from CO (8/21/2018) "small town race with the most friendly volunteers" (about: 2018) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Logan View Raider Run COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 1 Disclaimer: I was born and raised in Nebraska. I have lived in Colorado for the last almost 20 years but find there is nothing like going back to NE for marathons. So I'll admit my biases here. But the Logan View Raider Run supported my theory about great races in Nebraska. The staff and volunteers are so friendly and helpful. I love that this race supports the Logan View schools. As such, the aid stations are run by clubs, teams, and organizations from the high school. I loved engaging with the kids at the aid stations. Running this race at night (5 p.m. start) makes it unique. The heat and humidity was rough in the beginning, but the evening light over the cornfields with a beautiful sunset was worth it. I ran the last six miles in the dark and that was a new twist in running for me. The lightning bugs escorted for the last hour. The race organizers have Nebraska trivia on signs along the route to keep your mind occupied. The t-shirt and race medals were great. The pulled pork sandwich at the end was amazing. If you like small races and don't need crowds of cheering fans, this is a race for you. If you need those things, this race is not for you--stick to city races. But if you like running in the country, you should give this race a try.
Mark Nabel from Flagstaff, Arizona (8/21/2018) "Tough course...wonderful small town hospitality" (about: 2018) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Logan View Raider Run COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The Logan View Raider Run was everything I hoped it would be and more. A Boston qualifier it is not, as the terrain is quite hilly (Heartbreak Hill has nothing on County Rd G) and the start time temperature was 85 degrees. These factors combined though just ensure a little extra time to enjoy the rolling Nebraska countryside (including a spectacular sunset to put a little pep back in your step on the back half). The best part of the Logan View race was absolutely the people. From the high school band member who greeted me in the parking lot to the race organizers making sure every detail was covered to the elementary school students who left encouraging notes in my gear bag, everyone involved went above and beyond to ensure the best possible experience for each runner. I won't soon forget the little girl who ran at least 100 yards down the road from her family farm to greet me with a cup of Gatorade only to chase me back up the hill assuring me her brother also had a cup of water if I needed it (which I did!). So sweet! If you're looking for a PR course in Nebraska, this is not it. But if you want a race that will warm your soul and remind you of what truly makes America great, Logan View is the race for you!

(about: 2018) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Logan View Raider Run COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I highly recommend this race and I will keep this on my race schedule. The organization was excellent. The race is held at a local school which allows ample parking. The course consists of mostly gravel roads with a few miles on road. The aid station are no more than 2 miles apart manned by local high-school students and other volunteers. It's wonderful seeing how excited the kids are as you run by. I loved the gentle gravel hills and it constantly changed directions so you never get bored with the scenery. It's a beautiful way to see the midwest as there are lines of corn, soybeans, farmsteads, and prairie. The race starts at 5:00 pm which makes it easy to travel to and you get to view an amazing sunset. The race director stays an congratulates all finishers and you receive your medal from local high schoolers. The post-race venue is in the school where you have a full meal (it was excellent) and showers to clean up with. I hope many come out and experience such an awesome event!! I know I will be back!

H. from Ohio (11/26/2016) "Small is Beautiful" (about: 2016) 50+ previous marathons \| 1 Logan View Raider Run COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 If you, like me, are a fan of the smaller, more unique races, you will love this one. I ran this for my Nebraska race in my 50 state quest, and I am so glad I did. I really appreciated the attention to small details and the hard work of the volunteers and the excellent race director. The gravel roads and the rolling hills were challenging for me, but the amazing volunteers and well-stocked aid stations got me through what could have been a long, lonely night in the corn fields. I wore my headlamp so I would have it ready when I needed it, rather than waiting to get to the bag drop at mile 20. If I did this race again, I would also wear gaiters, because I am really not used to the gravel and I did get a bit in my shoes. I felt the course could have been a little better marked, especially later in the race, because there were a couple of places where it was possible to go the wrong way. I spoke to one person who did, and I also almost got a little lost later in the race. I am very slow, but the finish line was still open when I came in, along with plenty of pork barbecue. They had it set up so you could make yourself a to go box to take back to your hotel. I loved the unique finisher medals, and I was fortunate that there were so few women entered that it doubled as a placement medal. That's a fun one to hang on the wall! If I lived in the area I am sure I would run this one again and again.

I was worried about running on gravel roads but it really didn't feel much different than anything else I run on. Temps were very tolerable this year(low 70s at start). It was mid 80s and humid the day before. Corn and soybean fields made for some nice scenery. I liked the 5PM start. It made the race feel a little more unique. Sunset was 8:15PM and with few house or street lights around it was very dark by 8:45PM so bring a headlamp. I could see the lights of the school in the distance with several miles to go. The race was well run. The late night BBQ after the race was great. Very few spectators so it can get a little lonely as the runners get more spread out. Volunteers were very friendly. For a small race I really enjoyed this one and would do it again.

This is an exceptionally well-run event in a beautiful setting, and all for the benefit of a good cause. I liked the 5pm start; I was able to get a good nights sleep before the race and pick up my race packet the same day as the event. The course is challenging but the surface is, for the most part, easy on the legs. Volunteers were enthusiastic, supportive and very friendly. A delicious post-race meal capped off a fun evening. I highly recommend this great race.

It's definitely a run through the country!! Starting at 5 pm was awesome! Almost 4 hours of light, filled with amazing views, seeing the scene change as the sun set was breathtaking! When it got dark, it felt like an adventure! The best part was the people! These races raise money for the school, so each student team/group volunteered at the aid stations! What a great group of students, teachers, and parents!! This race is a must!! If you want to challenge yourself, see some of Nebraska's best views, and be around people you wished you lived by, this is for you!!

S. from Fargo North Dakota (8/22/2016) "Adventurous Race" (about: 2016) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Logan View Raider Run COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This is a small, unique, well organized race run mostly on rural gravel roads in northeast Nebraska. I ran the 50K along with 15 others. The 50K is run in conjunction with a full and a half. I've seen cornfields before but nothing like this. The corn is like 8 feet tall and it's everywhere. They know how to grow corn in Hooper NE. It was adventurous running through it because it was like a 32 mile long corn maze with aid stations. There are some big hills on the course which runs through at least one, maybe 2 river valleys. It is very scenic, beautiful country. The people organizing and supporting the race are friendly, smart, down to earth and practical. The race starts at 5pm to avoid potential heat. It wasn't hot the day I ran it but it could have been. I finished at about 10 pm. The sun sets at about 830. It gets really, really dark. That adds to the adventure. Bring a good flashlight or you will struggle and get freaked out. The 5 or 6 mile out and back near the end of the the 50K gets remote, so be prepared to be alone for awhile in the dark. This is a great race that you can run as hard as you can and won't be too beaten up because the gravel is a firm, perfect surface. I got a sweet belt buckle for finishing the 50K. The marathon & half medals were beautiful too. A great choice for Nebraska in my pursuit of 50 states.
