"Scenic, but not well marked" (about: 2015)

This was a flat and scenic course around the pathways on the sunriver Resort and golf course. It is a smaller race and there can be times when you are running all by yourself. There are many, many intersections where you need to decide where to turn. Some where well marked and some were not as visible. I made a wrong turn at about mile 17 and ran about a mile before I noticed I was probably not on the course. So I ended up running an extra two miles, dropping from 8th place to 20th, before finishing back at 10th. Adding about 15:00 to my time and missing the Boston qualifier by a couple minutes. I felt as it could of been supported better

The website for this race advertised that the first registrant from each state would receive 2 nights free lodging at the Sunriver Lodge. I was one of those recipients. I discovered this myself after emailing the RD to inquire. I got a response that she was late getting the vouchers out but would be soon. Six weeks went by, still no voucher for the rooms. After contacting the RD again, I did receive the gift certificate for the lodging......with the 3-4 days during the marathon event VOIDED! Seriously? Decided to rearrange my travel plans and at least make use one of the two nights. After emailing the address on the certificate, requesting the date to use my coupon, I was told there were no rooms available....even though the website indicated there were. Found the whole thing about the free lodging basically a gimmick for recruiting out of state runners. If you're going to use this as a means to lure runners to your race, then you need to honor the offer. As a result, I had a slight negative attitude going in to the race. However, the race itself was superb. Nice course, running almost entirely on bike paths. Volunteers were very nice and helpful. Aid stations were all very well stocked and manned. Even though the course meandered around a lot it was not hard to follow the path because there were pink ribbons to lead you in the right direction. It is a small race but it seemed like you were always around someone. The half marathoners started after the marathoners so the faster runners eventually caught up and passed you. Then on the second half of the course you were constantly encountering cyclists and leisure runners. I liked this aspect of the race. Nice finish area where we received a commemorative pint glass, with the marathon logo on it, and a free beer. Proceeds go to a great cause which made it even better.

This was my 5th marathon and after deciding to do a new course I was not disappointed. The views were spectacular and the race was well organized. The morning was chilly but you were in the sun and after it warmed up the trail was in the shade of the trees. Small group for the full marathon. My only disappointment was that the foot traffic did not realize there was a race and this meant dodging small children on bikes while legs were wobbly.

"Mountain views are a great distraction" (about: 2012)

Get to run on the cart paths of two world class golf courses for the first half. Gorgeous mountain views. Great volunteer support. Get to stay warm in the beautiful Sunriver Lodge prior to the start (real toilets) The start is very easy due to just 86 runners. Need to deal with cyclists, children and tourists who don't know that they are on a marathon course for the 2nd half. But not a big problem. Seemed to always be at least another runner nearby. Try it - you'll love it.

"Beautiful Low-population Marathon." (about: 2012)

Just 86 marathoners completed this year's race, and about three times as many half-marathoners. The weather was great, in the mid-30's when we started at 7:00 and around 70 when I finished at 11:30. The higher elevation (around 4500 feet) will probably keep you from a PR, but it was quite beautiful.

Great run if you like stunning scenery and don't care about spectators.
The course is on very nice trails in three resort areas. The first 1/2 is especially beautiful.
COLD, but be aware, it was 37 degrees at the start.
Great finish area and food choices.
You get a shirt at the expo and another one at the finish, along with a nice medal and a glass.
VERY GOOD VALUE.
