"Lifetime Challenge" (about: 2018)

This is my 38th marathon / ultra. Since I run each event only once, this is also the 38th different marathon course I have run. I have run some hard ones, including tough trail ultras. This is the hardest one.

This is a well organized event. We were treat with the best lodging, food, and transportation available. The course is along the well known Inca Trail. Many long segments of steep ascending and descending in high altitude. Although most of the time we are all by ourselves individually along the way, there are many hikers and porters to show their support to us, by saying some heart warm cheerful words, as our bib number gave out our 'identity'.

The run is not for everybody. However, if you are trained for tough trail, you would not like to skip this challenge. In 2018, a 75 year old New Zealander has completed the Incathon (16 miles instead of 26.2 miles).

Because the Peru government limits the number of persons entering Inca Trail each day and the Inca marathon has chosen to be held in the best traveling dry season in July. The registration to this event would close half year before the event.

Normally, it takes 4 days to trek along the Inca Trail. We have done it in one day. ---- If you can run, why hike?

My boyfriend and I and 2 other friends participated in the race last week - it was hard but rewarding. Pre-race information was clear, race organization was orderly and the race itself was so much fun! Huge kudos to the host, guides, porters, participants and spectators! I'd do it again.

The views and are unbelievable, but this is much more than a marathon. In order to run this marathon through an outfitter - You have to sign up for a tour, and you will need that time to get acclimated to the elevation. The rest of the tour is a great experience as well but the highlight is the marathon on the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu. I cannot say enough great things about Erik and his team. I am very pleased we did this.

Erik exceptionally organized a fabulous tour of Peru with a range of great activities seeing the ruins, white water rafting and ultimately a fantastically coordinated marathon on the Inca Trail. Running this was a mental and physical challenge over many hours but so rewarding with stunning scenery and satisfying to complete at Machu Picchu. Aid stations and support were perfect in difficult conditions along the trail. An amazing event!

For years I thought this was a race I could only dream of doing. 'One day when I win the lottery'. Until I looked into it and discovered it was totally affordable. There are a couple other companies that offer this race. I must admit though, it was the BIB number that steered me to Erik's Adventures. No doubt, I made the right decision. Erik and his entire team worked very hard to make everyone's individual experience a great one. The aid stations are plentiful along the course. A picture cannot capture the true beauty of the breath taking views encountered not only at each summit but throughout the 26.2 miles. This race attracts not so ordinary runners, each amazing and inspiring, willing to give 100%. Couldn't have shared this experience with a greater group of people. Five stars all the way around!

Inca Trail Marathon Thoughts

This was my 6th continent. I came to Peru having just climbed Mt Kilimanjaro & run a marathon there. Plus I had run the Great Wall a month before that. Both of those were great experiences, but this is, by far, the toughest race you'll ever love.

My maternal grandfather was a noted Inca authority in his day. So I grew up with images of Peru and Machu Picchu. When it came to choosing a South America race, there was no other option. When it came to who to do it with, there was no other option either.

I can't thank Erik & Erik's Adventures enough for taking care of every detail. The planning and execution were beyond my expectations. Erik thinks like an adventure runner because he is one. From start to finish, this was a phenomenal experience.

Course: the hardest, but spectacular views!
Organization: Erik & crew think of all the things you'd never even know to think about.
Spectators: the day hikers are like built in spectators. Very supportive & encouraging.

Thanks to Erik, I'll forever think of myself from here on out as a Chasqui...an true Inca Runner!!

Coordinating a marathon on the Inca Trail is a herculean effort. Erik's has a great relationship with Peruvian guides and porters; he put on a race that could not have been better!

It´s the mixture of the demanding elevation profile, the high altitude, the breathtaking views on the course and finally the finish line in Machu Picchu which makes this race a unique experience!
Erik and his team did a great job to support us with a perfect race organization and personal attention to bring everybody healthy and safe behind the finish line.
Thanks also to Erik for his valuable tips for us runners in the preparation for this though race.
So it was very clear for me where to put the focus in my training hills, hills, hills, stairs, stairs, stairs, uneven terrain.
Everybody who is looking for a special adventure should definitely go for the Inca Trail Marathon!
For people fond of trail running and mountain races a MUST on their bucket list!

There is no better finish line than this beautiful place. Erik's Adventure does a great work with the Inca Trail Marathon. The detailed logistics and intensive labor that Erik and his crew take of are on point. All of the runners needs are thought through taken care of and mapped out best they can be. Even in the ever changing conditions that Mother Nature and Human Nature provide this company will take care of everything. This is an amazing marathon so much fun, educational and great activities trip for young thru old. For spectators there are activities, on your own time and history. For runners you have group runs that show some terrain and slowly introduce elevation - It's an intense super tough trail even if you do your homework and put in miles the elevation is a whole new level. Erik's Adventures is a quality company run by runners that understand adventure seekers and casual spectactors both. Erik is there for whatever you need - flexible and intelligent being able to deal with whatever necessary . Very impressive and would definently do more things with this company. Quality of feeling taken care of is top notch for customer service.

Tired of the same old marathon routine, this is a great challenge. And it's WAY more than just a marathon.
Touring of Inca Ruins, rafting, zip line, cultural activities are all including when you do the worlds toughest marathon.
Not to worry, Erik is totally focused on your safety and success.
You will run the Inca Trail in one day. Most Trekkers take 4-5 days doing it. Awesome finish at the top of Machu Picchu, with a spectacular view.
I was the last finisher in one day this year and all the other runners were there to cheer me in, some waiting 5 hours (don't plan to BQ here:).
My daughter joined me as a 'spectator' and had just as good of a trip.
Well worth the price!
