Not PB course but great for training for goal race (about: 2012)

Let's be clear: this is a course well suited as a component in one's training for a goal marathon later in the season. It covers asphalt, dirt, boardwalk, gravel, but very little concern over vehicle traffic. The kind of route one likes for a good, long training run with the added benefit of a very well staffed volunteer base and adequate refreshment stations. I was also impressed to see numerous medical personnel cycling the course. Amazing and distracting views of not only wetlands, marshlands, grassy fields, but also Lake Ontario. One shared the Waterfront Trail with cyclists, walkers and fitness runners. True, there were not many running the 'full' - most did the 13.1m or 10km - so it did get rather lonely during the last 13.1m Spectators could not seem to find their way to where and when the few marathoners would show up along the course. So, cheerful volunteers along the well marked course was appreciated. Post race goody bag was well prepared and received. Spectators had a great gathering place to await the arrival of runners. Yes this marathon has the 'bones', structure and volunteer support to grow. Will they opt for a city streets course? I for one hope not - there are enough of them out there. Sometimes it is enough to just lace up and head for the roads less travelled and breathe the fresh air (except when running past the sewage / pollution treatment plant)! I whole heartedly recommend this marathon and appreciate the attention to detail the race director and team have given. I recommend this for not only first timers but also experienced marathoners who want to add an extra dimension to the periodized training program. It has been my experience that often when you try to 'use' a big city marathon as a 'training run' you get swept up in the hype and crowds and you end up racing ... and that really was not your original intent. This marathon lived up to and even surpassed my expectations. Well done!

Nice small race (about: 2011)

I've run the race (half) both years now. It's a nice course, but a bit challenging - includes a short trail section and some short sharp hills. Fan support is sparse compared to big city marathons, but those who are out are enthusiastic. I live in Whitby so it's very convenient!

Very Scenic Interesting Race (about: 2011)

I absolutely loved this small race (less than 100 people)! It was so scenic with a nice mix of farm land, road ways, trails through fields, bike paths past the beautiful shore of Lake Ontario, rural roads in a subdivision of beautiful homes - the wide variety really helped me mentally! It was mainly flat with a few minor slopes - NOTHING major. They even had pacers!

Great small race (about: 2011)

I ran the half marathon, but being from Whitby, I know the whole course, and it's beautiful, and relatively flat along the waterfront trail. Great organization, medal was nice, and post-race food was presented in a bag. It is a small event, so don't expect many spectators, but the ones who come out are very supportive. There is also a small trail section around the 10K mark of the course.

Pleasant Surprise for a 1st Marathon! (about: 2010)

I was pleasantly surprised by the organization and professionalism displayed throughout the whole event. I am looking forward to the changes promised in 2011 and recommend to try this scenic race.
