"Stunningly Beautiful & Friendly" (about: 2014)
11-50 previous marathons
| 1 Guernsey Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 4 The last 4 miles are along the harbour road and post facilities but the rest of the course is absolutely stunning. Wide sandy coves, fort appointed headlands undulating rich meadows as lush as Guernsey milk. Main roads as wide a a country land and country lands a quiet and bucolic as you can imagine. The sea is everywhere , the rocks and smell of seaweed follow you and it is a pleasure just running around this island. The people are ridiculously friendly and cheerful even though they are thin on the ground but their enthusiasm makes up for it. No isotonics no gels ( in spire of promises) and cotton t shirt were the downside. Great medal was a plus. Do you want a sedate uncrowded marathon in a jewel of an isle? Then ignore the foibles as this is for you

"friendly people on course" (about: 2013)
50+ previous marathons
| 1 Guernsey Marathon
COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 I got lost on part of the course - the result was that I finished too late to be recorded as a finisher - with only about 120 starters it is puzzling why electronic recording was used I would like to thank the marshalls for waiting for me on the course the organizers for the event.

"Beautiful run around the Island!" (about: 2013)
4-5 previous marathons
| 1 Guernsey Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 A small but very friendly marathon taking in a variety of the beautiful, scenic offerings of Guernsey. The supporters, although small in number provided warm, enthusiastic encouragement. Be prepared with your own fuel as organizers clearly advised water only provided on course. Will defo want to participate in this marathon again - had a wonderful time.

"No gels or sports drink on the course" (about: 2013)
11-50 previous marathons
| 1 Guernsey Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 1 They didn't provide any gels or sports drink along the course which I found odd as they were very generous with prize money for 1st/2nd/3rd. No tech shirt either as described on the website, just a cheap cotton one. Disappointed overall.

"Could be so much better" (about: 2009)
50+ previous marathons
| 2 Guernsey Marathons
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 2 Beware that it is on open roads - especially dangerous on last 3 miles or so on approach to finish. No blue line to follow - some people went the wrong way. The first part was hilly, but then it got flat. Not a PB course. Start and finish are at a nice stadium, but it is its position that is problematic - near the island's center. More use of coast (out-and-back style) would be safer and better. The part on the coast is very beautiful and the best bit of the event. Pasta party is too pricey for what you get. The relay event very expensive. There's a mass start with no pens, so expect slower runners ahead, but as a small marathon, it's not too much of a problem. |
