"Great, city, poor organization, traffic a nightmar" (about: 2010)

Love Galway City. First loop of marathon was fine. Second loop was a disaster where traffic was a nightmare from hospital to finish. Also, some of the marshals left their positions before the end of the race. Met one English guy (I was on my way back to my car after completing race) who did not know where to go at one junction. He was very upset (and tired). Cups are also very difficult to drink from on the run and bottles would have been better. Also nothing to eat at the finish, which was disappointing. Was also promised a particular bib number, which did not happen. Sponsors were disappointed.

Potential to be a great race; however, it needs tweaking for next year to succeed.

"Great potential but very poorly organized" (about: 2010)

NO number for me at the expo, so I was eventually given a bottle of water, a t-shirt, and a chip with no tie.

There were very few toilets at the staging area and none on the route.

The route was very scenic in places, but at one point I got clipped by a car at a busy junction while four marshals had a chat in the middle of the road. The second lap, after the half marathoners had finished, seemed to have no marshals at all.

I didn't see any medical aid available on the route, away from city center.

I didn't see PowerAde even though it was available at at least one point. Hours later, while walking around the city, my family was offered two crates of 8 bottles each of PowerAde that was "left over" - and they were giving it away to the general public!

There was nothing in the line of food supplied at the end and it took over two weeks to locate a finishing chip time for me.

Very disappointing. Can only get better.

"Bad road closures, no food after the race" (about: 2010)

Road closures were poor. The course offered two loops through the city, and on the second loop, the cars were everywhere - you had to constantly jump on and off of the paths to avoid cars and pedestrians. At the end of the race there was no food. They needed some bananas and chocolate for the finishers - not just water. Not enough marshals either; at times you could have gone off-track. Galway is fantastic; this could be a great race if these problems were fixed. It's the first race in awhile, so it should get better next year.
