"Not bad but could use some improvements" (about: 2014)

The organizers and volunteers are very friendly. The course isn't terrible, a downhill and back up (a long but gradual climb) four times. Water stations and port-a-potties were numerous and well staffed and stocked. Finish line festivities were festive. Suggestions - (1) a non-loop course that takes in more of Amman; (2) a payment system that works (we had to pay cash because the credit card system neither worked online or in person); (3) more organization at the finish (we were told by numerous organizers and volunteers that there would be no buses back to the parking area 6 kilometers away until 2 hours after we finished the race so we took a taxi; when we arrived back at the parking, a bus from the finish line also pulled up full of runners). More recovery food at the end would be good also.

The marathon itself was well supported (eventually). Aid stations were fantastic but I came across a couple of decision points wer i had to turn right or left. One poor chap took wrong turn! The Regent Palace is said to be the sponsoring hotel. It is miles away from the start and, not, as claimed closest. The marathon is quite tough you either go
uphill or down - no flat. I cannot really fault the marathon but my advice to anyone thinking of doing it is plan well the logistics - hotel staff and support staff not so informed about transport.

"Tough run. Support was fair (ran out of water)." (about: 2011)

Basically it is really a mass, mainly teenage 10k walk, with a marathon stuck on...There were only about 200 or so runners at the 6am Marathon start. They stopped giving out water after 3.5 hours! Sun started getting bad at this time. Also, the road is opened up, and then you have to deal with kids running beside you and people wandering around in the road. Mass crowds wandering all over. There is no real audience for the Marathon, and the local people are not use to seeing anyone run, so they are a little bewildered.
It is a loop course of roughly 10km, so there is a 5km downhill, then the same unpleasant uphill.
I had read that the race organization was poor in previous races, and this was only the third year. They did their best I guess.Probably will improve in time.

No chance of getting a medal, because hundreds of kids from the 10 k grabbed 2 or three each and I could not get one.
I am not disappointed with the race because I expected some level of chaos. It is a race in a developing country, so keep that in mind. Most 'volunteers' at the site, even the younger kids cannot answer questions in English. After you finish, no one can figure out where the buses are to take you to the car park. Eventually I was told I would have to wait 6 hours for a return bus...This was not true, but there was no return bus till about 1-2 pm. No signs marking where buses or items you left at the start can be picked up...I expected this, but you just want to get home after the marathon. There is a music/pep rally after the event, but mainly oriented to the 10k folks who devour and mob everything.
Good luck if you run!

"there was no organization (nor organizers)" (about: 2010)

The 2009 edition was much better the than 2010; the gathering point was far from start point, there was no guidance on getting from the gathering point to the start point, and the supplements during the race were bad (only big water bottle). They need a professional team for next season.

M.M.
