THE GOOD: Nice, rural course. All asphalt with rolling hills and little traffic. The whole road was closed for the first few miles so you can get a pretty clean start. The race started at 5AM which allows for the first 2 hours to be relatively shady and cooler, although humid. Plenty of water stops with some Gatorade also - overall good support.
THE NOT SO GOOD: There is a concurrent half marathon, which had about 3000 runners whereas the marathon only had a few hundred. So they kind of forget about the marathoners after three hours. I had to dodge lots of spectators who were leaving en mass over the last few miles and almost got run over by an organizer's van right before the finish line. I came in at 3:46, so its not like I was out there incredibly long. They just kind forget there are still people out there after the marathon leaders are in. Secondly, after the first 2 hours, the sun comes out & the heat and humidity take their toll in the second half. Finally, the awards event: we waited for 45 minutes after the event start time, and the organizers never showed up. I was tired and everyone was standing, waiting. I left and called the next day. They said they would mail my age group trophy and they never did.
