"Perfect course for a new PR." (about: 2012)

Just like any other race that you would expect at this size. It has relatively few people compared to the bigger events. What really stands out is the flatness. I made a new PR 1h 18 minutes for a half-marathon. So if you really want to be at a flat course this is the one to be at.

"Fast marathon one of the few in Dec in Europe" (about: 2011)

I ran this marathon in December '11. I chose this marathon because it is a very fast marathon (very flat), not very crowded, relatively high quality runners (a relatively large number of sub 3h30 finishers - more than 30%), several pace groups and very well organised. It lacks spectators.

Not a whole lot of info about this marathon, but if you are happy to put your faith in the organizers, you will not be disappointed. The course is mostly flat, and all on roads; and the kilometer markers and drink stations at every 5K (cups, orange juice and water). It is true that there are very few supporters on the course; however, the few Dutch you do see are always very supportive. Start area facilities are good, with showers, changing rooms, toilets, etc. It was very easy to get to the venue, both in terms of public transportation and private car. Recommended hotel is the Atlas, which is a 5-minute walk from the start. As an alternative, there is the Carlton Oasis, 15 minutes from the start - a very comfortable hotel.

"Low-key club event, but a good winter run" (about: 2008)

Ran for the first time in 2008. Didn't know what to expect as all the pre-event material, website information, etc. was a bit "homespun." However, I shouldn't have worried as they had everything needed for a club-type, trouble-free run in great cold but still conditions. It did not lack anything - other than spectators. But it is the Netherlands in December.

Starts and ends at a running club's track. Excellent facilities in terms of toilets, drinks, heated cafe for spectators, etc. No chip facilities, but did have official timing and "big clock," which was good enough.

Full and half marathon runners start together. Would estimate that there were maybe 500 in total. The course is almost entirely on rural cycle paths with some nice views and countryside sections. Water and isotonic stations were every 5K. Very well organized, with marshals at all key corners, road crossings and route turns.

Being the Netherlands, this was a flat and fast course. This year was perhaps fortunate, but the weather was perfect at about 5 C and no wind or rain. Medal and sports drinks at the end, but no tee-shirt - but then at less than 20 euros for entry, it's still a great value.

I would heartily recommend this event to those looking for a winter marathon on an enjoyable course and can run without the "pampering" of the bigger events. Really, really enjoyed this run and I will be back next year.

"A small, nice, friendly marathon" (about: 2006)

The day of the marathon was windy. There is little protection, so it was tough. At the end you really feel that you did something special.
