This was my first marathon. Loved the concept. Loved the "small" size of the marathon. Organizers are amazing. They really make you feel like you "count," and you're not just one of thousands like with other events. I am sad that there will not be a 2010 event.

I have run this event twice and volunteered last year. I am very much looking forward to the 2009 venue. This will be my 10th marathon. I have avoided using the word "race" to describe this marathon because there are no timing chips and to win you need the best poker hand and not the best time. With the pressure off you can just enjoy the run. The course is great and most of the runners know one another from the local running group, but everyone is welcome. Great swag is bestowed upon the winner and everyone gets something at the awards dinner. I always pencil this event into my race year. Oh, I forgot to mention that the proceeds go to facilitate children's literacy and a donation is made to the local library every year.

"Great fun; a unique experience" (about: 2007)

If you are running this one, don't expect a chip or big, huge crowds. They did have lots of support at the Starbucks stops and a really flat course. There's usually a little extra distance to get to the Starbucks to pick up your cards. One of the best race packets I've received - impressive for such a small race. I missed the 2008 race but can't wait for 2009. It's a great way to prepare for a spring marathon.

"Poker, Marathon, Starbucks; what could be better!" (about: 2008)

This marathon is not your average event.

You run from Starbucks to Starbucks and collect a hand of 7 cards. The runner with the best 5 cards 'wins' the race.

The race distance is accurate, but it does not take into account the extra distance to actually run to the Starbucks from off of the main roads. It probably adds a bit.

The stops had water and coffee. Great support.

The only downside was that a lot of the distance was running on the shoulder of roads or sidewalks where the roads weren't blocked off to traffic.

I would totally do it again and am planning on it for 2009.
