S. from PA (2/27/2024) "Hills of Atlanta" (about: 2024) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Georgia Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 The race expo was held outside of beautiful Mercedes Benz Stadium. It was a moderate size expo with the usual gear, speakers and merchandise. The race shirts were nice Adidas high quality material. There were ample hotels in walking distance close to the city sights - GA Aquarium and World of Coca Cola that I explored during my first time to Atlanta and I was able to walk to the starting area. The race was well organized with the bag check and starting line areas clearly marked. There were even volunteers to ask if needed in the start village that was much appreciated. The course was all hills with no flat portions whatsoever, but that was what I expected going into the race. I didn't get a chance to look much at my surroundings while running due to the poor road conditions with potholes and uneven surfaces in several places. The First Half Marathoners were with us until the break off point so it was a bit crowded at times. The second half of the race had long stretches with larger hills that began around mile 21 and continued to the finish. At the finish we were provided with water, chocolate milk, yogurt, oatmeal pies and Uncrustables as well as a free beer. The city didn't seem to recognize the marathon as much as other ones I've been to with little fanfare leading up to the event - but the Atlanta Track Club organized the event well I thought.
D. A. from Michigan (3/2/2022) "Cold, wet, and hilly" (about: 2022) 6-10 previous marathons \| 1 Georgia Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 We were dealt a bad hand in 2022. The temperature was in the high 40s and it rained the entire marathon. The course is a mixed bag. I enjoyed running by the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum in Freedom Park; passing through Piedmont Park; and by Spelman and Morehouse Colleges. However, I wish other popular/historical attractions were included as part of the route (BeltLine, Sweet Auburn, etc.). There were not a lot of spectators (not sure if this is normal or due to the rain). By far the smallest expo I've ever visited (due to the pandemic?). All in all, ATL is a fun city and I would recommend visiting for the marathon.

L. from New York, NY (3/4/2020) "A decent big city marathon" (about: 2020) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Georgia Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 1 Tip: use the bathrooms at the Omni Hotel located right by the startline. The race got started late by 3 minutes. It has a combination start with marathoners and half-marathoners co-mingled. I usually prefer races that don't do this, or have clear differentiation in bibs between the two races, but sadly that was not the case here. The course is hilly, but fine. You see a lot of Atlanta, e.g. running by the Carter Center, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Clark University, etc. However there are very few spectators and the roads are only partially closed to traffic (e.g. you have one lane, but cars are still zipping by you on the other side of the cones). Some other notes: 1) Gels are provided at mile 8 and 18 2) There was no on-course entertainment (e.g. bands) 3) The course has a section where you run on grass to get onto a track to run 300 meters on a track 4) The course has a few U-turns 5) The award ceremony only announced first place male/female for overall, master, and grandmaster 6) The expo is very small. 5 minutes in and out

B. from Pittsburgh,Pa (3/2/2020) "Hills, hills and more hills" (about: 2020) 50+ previous marathons \| 1 Georgia Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Do not underestimate how hilly this course actually is. Not little hills either. But for every uphill there is a commensurate downhill. A scenic course that takes runners through the highlights of Atlanta. Since full runners stay with halfers until about 12.5 miles, the course stays congested until the split. Otherwise nothing to complain about regarding the course or organization. Spectators were sparse until the finish, but enthusiastic. The expo was uneventful for such a big city race. Great shirt and medal. Unless you're staying downtown, MARTA is the way to go to get to the race. Atlanta Brewing and Arches were the best of a great collection of breweries.

Unfortunately very few fans in the streets. Seems to me that the city does not support the marathon at all. Very limited expo for a big city marathon. First miles before sunrise, due to the day light saving time. Very well organized and helpful volunteers.

B. from KS (3/26/2018) "Constant hills but good support" (about: 2018) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Georgia Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 If you want a flat race, this is not for you. Most of the hills are rolling but are constant the whole way. Be prepared to start conservatively with all the hills. I thought the crowd support was good. It isn't Boston, you won't have people the whole way but many were in their yards supporting runners. There is only one Gu station, but the race is sponsored by a grocery store chain, so there are oranges, bananas, etc in lots of places. The expo was surprising small for a race with 6000 runners total.

O. from Sacramento, CA (3/21/2018) "OMG, hills...makes other marathons easy" (about: 2018) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Georgia Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 So I did this because I was visiting my daughter in ATL and I thought why not do this marathon while I was there for fun. This was my 2nd slowest marathon time because of all the hill walking I ended up doing. I expected to see more of ATL but it was 90% residential roads. Granted the houses were nice but I can see houses in my hometown so don't agree with all the 'such pretty scenario' comments of the other folks. The spectators are very few but the ones who are out there are very supportive; especially the great volunteers. Not many signs and no bands along the route. Great hydration with Dasani water and Powerade nearly every 1.5 miles but only one Gu station at mile 20! Oranges were also handed out several times so that was nice but I didn't see anyone taking the pretzels and cookies that were offered. Shirt was OK, the medal was pretty, expo was very small but I did get free socks! There were only 1350 marathon finishers. This is a small marathon but lots of half folks who start out with the marathoners.
C. D. from IL (3/19/2018) "Fabulous and better than expected!" (about: 2018) 11-50 previous marathons COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I ran this race yesterday after not preparing myself properly. Training on in Flat Chicago for this course, was not ideal. As unprepared as I was, the scenery, course and support carried me thru. I spent the first half of the race amazed at how beautiful the homes, area and parks all were. The trees were all in bloom, a perfect time of year for this race, spring is so beautiful here! The neighborhoods we ran thru were AMAZING, the southern charm of Atlanta really showed thru. On virtually every block families were all on their front porch rocking chairs with a cup of coffee in hand cheering us runner on! So welcoming and friendly! And I wont lie, miles 16 on, I was most definitely cursing all the hills. Druid Hills neighborhood was a tough leg, but again the homes and support carries you through! With that being said, the support on the course, AMAZING! Plenty of water, power-ade, snacks, oranges, bananas... Vaseline... Everything you need, they had! Although I don't think this Midwestern girl can physically handle this courses terrain, I highly recommend running Atlanta - Publix at least once!

B. from Atlanta, GA (3/18/2018) "Gorgeous course, very hilly, weak expo 2018 half" (about: 2018) 2 previous marathons \| 1 Georgia Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 The course was surprisingly pretty and clean, and through many great Atlanta neighborhoods, but definitely some hills. I ran the half and probably should have looked at the elevation more closely, I knew it was hilly, just not exactly 'where', wow mile 10-12.5 is mostly an uphill climb, put me off my pace a few minutes. The expo was actually pretty disappointing. It's the smallest I've seen for a race this size, by far. I was literally in and out in under 10 minutes b/c there was not much there to look at or do. After event was good though, plenty of food, organized. Were there after race jackets? I didn't see them, maybe at a booth. Didn't hang around to find them.

It was a little replica of a Publix grocery cart! What!? Are you kidding? I finished first in my age group and I get a Cracker Jack toy for the award? Very poor choice. I was very disappointed. Don't bother using this tiny toy again for an award, it was totally disrespectful.
