Great course through gorgeous countryside and lovely small villages and towns....

There's no pleasing some people! This is Elgin, not London or New York! It was yet another great event, as always. Well done to Nicky Nash and her hard-working team, who always make this a brilliant day.

It would have helped in making it back to airport in Glasgow, and avoiding having to haggle for a late checkout. Running in Scotland was a big thrill - the people are great.

Easy-to-find venue, free parking right outside h.q., early start was spot on, and not busy traffic-wise - but more spectators would have been nice, but that's not important. Maybe orange squash on stations too. Nice medal/t-shirt. A big "thank you" to you all.

When I asked for electrolyte replacements I was told to eat a banana! Most of the runners were sub 4 hours. My husband and I were the only Americans in the race, and we were well over 4 hours! They honored us at the awards ceremony with recognition and a silver Scottish Loving Cup. Couldn't understand everything they said but lovely people nevertheless. The course was rolling hills through beautiful villages and countryside. The local people were not aware that there was a race going on and looked amazed whenever we ran by. We had to run WITH the flow of traffic and there were no closed roads or police support. Bit scary!

H. from Lossiemouth, Morayshire (11/18/2005) "Only water available at stations" (about: 2005) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Moray Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 2 This is a great wee marathon, a tough course because of the great, long straights you fight to keep will power high. Disappointing that carb drinks are not supplied at feed stations, we had to go out the night before and strategically place some for en-route. Aside from this one detail, everything else was excellent.

W. from Melbourne, Florida (9/8/2005) "Scotch whisky and a Highland fling" (about: 2005) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Moray Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 1 Elgin, County Moray, is in the heart of Scotland's malt whisky district. Distilleries are everywhere, including next door to race headquarters. The race organizers are very friendly. They treat visitors like celebrities. My wife (who also ran) and I wish there had been an expo or pasta party or some other chance to socialize with them more. The well-marked course is a big loop which starts next to the ruins of a medieval cathedral, wanders out to the coastal town of Burghead, follows the coast road to the harbor in Lossiemouth, then returns to Elgin. Winding country roads, quaint villages, wheat fields, shady lanes, cattle and sheep farms plus views of the North Sea kept the course interesting while gently rolling hills made it challenging. Although intersections were well protected, the entire course was open to traffic. The race marshalls insisted that we run on the left side (with our backs to traffic). I suppose the adrenaline shots I got when speeding cars passed within inches helped my pace some. We're glad we carried our own gel shots and electrolyte drink. The water points were every two miles, but only had water; no Gatorade, fruit or anything else. We also wish there had been some spectators. The area residents seemed unaware of the event. Although some locals complained about the heat (60's and 70's), after training in Florida, we thought anything under 80 degrees was great. In general, most participants were fast runners. Over 60 per cent finished under 4 hours. Then we learned why they ran so fast: the prizes were bottles of Scotch whisky!
