I have run the past two years' half-marathons at Bangalore and it has been a pleasure to note marked improvements in the second one.

Great to notice that more and more people are taking to it. The newspaper and TV channel coverage can be increased though.

The Bangalore International Marathon 2006 organized by the Times Group. This life-sized event made Bangalore's populace fancy the idea of "My Bangalore." As a part of the Celebration Run, which started from Kanteerava Stadium, we roared with joy as we ran towards Vidhan Soudha to rejoice and enliven the spirit of Bangalore.

We were running for a cleaner, greener, better Bangalore or we at least thought so. It was disheartening to see that participants had thrown on roads and pavements such items as mineral water bottles, fruit juice packs, paper hats, paper flags, pamphlets, paper cups and other stuff provided by the organizers. It was more disheartening to find some others walking over and past this trash without giving a thought at all. We felt people had walked over or walked past the cause of creating a cleaner Bangalore.

"Better by far that you should forget and smile / Than that you should remember and be sad" found no place in our heart today, which is why we took up the task of picking up the trash and we were happy to find that some lent a hand in this effort. The spirit of Bangalore was coming alive.

On our return, the event managers promised us that they would tidy the roads. Later this evening, when we visited the marathon track, we were glad to find them wiping out the mess, but we must realize that the larger idea of infusing civic sense into people is not served if the clean up operation happens after all have left.

One question still lingers in our minds: Did we walk all over the cause of creating a cleaner, better Bangalore?

It's a great feeling to see Bangalore being listed in marathon history world over. Hats Off to the organizer - Cross Over Consulting. It's a "MARATHON TASK" to organize an international event in a SMALL city like BANGALORE. However, there were couple of challenges - to name a few, traffic and no medical assistance on the marathon course - not anywhere close to international standards. Organizer did his bit during 2005 edition.

Course: The course seemed never-ending when we took Ring Road.

Spectators: None knew what was actually happening. Had a wonderful experience with spectators while running the Mumbai Internationa Marathon 2005.

Hopefully these challenges (traffic & medical facilities) would be overcome in the 2nd Bangalore International Marathon 2006. I wish Mr. Darshan & his team all the very best for 2006. Keep up the good work.

Hello, I am Madhukar. It's too hot in our city but it's a good opportunity to try neat things in a great city. I love to run with my friends; we really enjoy participating and running on our city roads.

Unless you are able to complete the full marathon in 3 hours or so, do not plan to run this. After 3 hours, the traffic will be allowed to enter the marathon route and you will then run for your life, not the marathon. :(

It is very hot and the track is hilly on the return. PLEASE DO NOT RUN THE FULL MARATHON - THE HALF MARATHON IS SAFER.

Well organized, scenic tour of the city. But very hot, and at times, crowded.

"Hot, humid, and bad course with traffic" (about: 2005)

It was hot and humid (around 30 C) so unless you are used to that weather it is exhausting. It was an out-and-back course and the out part was well done, with plenty of water stops and the road closed to traffic. The back part was a nightmare unless you were right up there with the front pack. At some point the police could not hold back the traffic and runners had to keep going with buses and cars going along within two feet (I had dropped out by then). The last 12-13 KMs were worse with all kinds of traffic on the road and the marathon runners barely visible. Unless you are an elite runner (2:30 or thereabouts) don't bother running this one.
