The number pick up lines at the start were an absolute disaster. Too many people and not enough volunteers. I'm also pissed that I placed third in age division and to this day I have NOT received my award and I have contacted them at least 12 times with no result. TOTALLY MISMANAGED!

A run down the strip at dusk in theory seems fun. However there are a significant number of turns in the 2nd half of the course in very poorly lit areas, with next to no direction from course officials which made the last 6 miles of the course quite difficult. It was difficult during the last several miles of the marathon as several 1/2 marathoners spilled over into our lanes, spectators were just walking in the way, it was quite the scene. Course aid stations were fine. I was able to be tracked throughout the race via the race App, but now two weeks later there is still no evidence in the results that I ran the race. I have reached out to the race organization and filled out their online results correction form and still no one can tell me what my time was or what the issue seems to be. I've run races much bigger, and much smaller than this and have never had this issue. The t-shirt is poor quality given the price paid for this race. The start village is fine, but getting into 'waves' and then 'corrals' was a joke. The expo was decent. If you need to run NV as I needed for 50 states you might want to consider another race.

"Poorly organized, chaotic start, confusing course" (about: 2019)

Start was a mess. Why assign corrals when everyone is just going to line up and get squeezed through to the start en masse? Very slow and frustrating for runners to be positioned behind rows of walkers. The race started more than 30 minutes late - frustrating for any runner accustomed to planning out their nutrition & last minute washroom runs. The half / full course split was initially clear but poor lighting, a huge number of runners and confusing signage resulted in a wrong turn that took me right to the finish having run just over 26K. Disappointed with everything about this overpriced race.

"Great first half, weird second half" (about: 2018)

What a strange marathon. The expo was well organized but the start was a bit of a mess. Also, as many people have mentioned, the toilet situation was abysmal: I ended up waiting in a 3 minute line at mile 6 (I saw many people just go on the side of the road in the middle of the strip).

The first half was quite fun, with great crowd support on the strip. The second half was weird, meandering through dark warehouse parking lots.

I don't know how I feel about running in the evening. It was a bit of a novelty and kind of fun, but I had no idea how to fuel beforehand and sitting around in a hotel all day (breathing in recycled air) didn't help much either.

If I ever decide to do this race again, I will stick with the half. The full was weird and a bit of a mess.

"Boring!" (about: 2018)

Corrals were a mess. No side entry. People kept bumping into me trying to get to the front. Very aggravating. Running down the Strip at night was cool, then the course veered off into the bowls of Vegas. Running continuous loops in a 'parking lot' twice was super boring with no course support. Also, hate starting off with half marathoners (no offense). All in all, I love running marathons and starting at sundown was a kinda a cool thing. Was waiting around all day to run was uneventful and didn't know how and when to fuel during the morning and early afternoon. Love Vegas and glad I ran it. Will probably run the Half next time.

"Running the Vegas strip was cool!" (about: 2018)

While I've avoided Rock 'n' Roll Marathons thus far, I needed to cross off Nevada and was looking forward to a trip to Vegas. Overall, the race was fine.

Expo: Was crowded at the convention center, but it was decently organized and had a large number of vendors. While merchandise options online were slim, there was a good selection onsite.

Starting 'village': This was kind of a mess. The Start/Finish lines were obviously convenient to the strip resorts, so that was good. But security was 'hit or miss' at the entry points, and from the parking lot to the corrals. There also seemed to be a good deal of confusion on the part of some runners about where they needed to be. Communication could have been better at spots.

Race: I felt the starting corrals were fine. The weather was wonderful. Running on the strip was an experience. I do agree that port-a-pots were scarce, though I found a bank of them with little lines, after a couple miles. But this could definitely be improved. Water/'ade' stations were fine. The full course did take you through some dark run-down parts of town, and there were several locations with unusual switchbacks in parking lots and festival grounds. (I hadn't seen that in many of my other races so it didn't bother me that much). The course was very flat. Yay! There was a lot of music along the route, so that was cool. And there were lots of spectators along the strip.

Finish chute: This was pretty standard. I was in a hurry, as my wife and I had late dinner reservations, so I was hobbling through. But food offerings seemed typical. Heat sheets, IIRC. No problems there.

Swag: The shirt was fine, and I love the medal. It was metal cards (a 2, 6, and 2) that fan out over the logo. One of my favorites!

Overall: I don't regret choosing to run it. While the event did have some shortcomings, I still enjoyed the race and running on the Vegas strip at night is an unforgettable experience!

"Fun race with a couple needed tweaks" (about: 2018)

Organization thoughts:

- Packet pick up was a breeze.

- The starting corral situation still needs to be resolved based on comments from previous years. While hanging out at the corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Harmon Ave just minutes before the corrals were scheduled to open, some 'official' starting yelling at all runners to proceed back to the start village in order to enter corrals. This was incorrect and added at least an additional mile of walking plus confusion. I know it was windy and that made things difficult to display signage, but they clearly need to work on organization for their starts.

- More porta potties on the course.

Course thoughts:

- Very cool to run on the strip. That experience was as advertised.

- The pavilions section was pretty cool with having a DJ mix music that could be heard through the entire stretch.

- Find an alternative to the festival grounds for adding mileage to this course. Too much zig zag, especially that late in the course.

"Joke's on me" (about: 2017)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 1  FANS: 5

1.Start time was scheduled for 4:30 PM. Start was 0.2 miles from the hotel. I showed up at 4:00, expecting to start in corral #1, which was where I was directed to go at the pre-race expo the day before (based on my expected finish time of 3:10). Big races like this have staggered starts, and a new corral starts every two minutes or so.

2. First sign of trouble: the starting line had one entry point a few feet wide. Logistics changed because of the mass shooting. The cops/organizers did the best that they could, I guess. But it was still poorly thought out.

3. The tiny entry point was 150 yards from corral #1, where I was supposed to be. There was elbow room only.

4. I pushed my way up to to corral #7 or so by the time my group left as scheduled at 4:30. By the time I started at 4:41 PM - 11 minutes late - I'd been on my feet for 45 minutes, had a FULL bladder, absolutely no warm up, plus I was admittedly suffering psychologically from the indignity of starting a race behind overweight 20-something girls wearing tutus and fairy wings.

5. I started out slow, by my standards. That was partially by design, but was mostly due to the fact that it was proving difficult to weave around runners from previous corrals, who seemed to run five abreast or more at approximately the same speed. Once I overcame runners from one corral, the process repeated again and again when I caught up to the runners from next few corrals, who ran in much the same fashion.

6. I learned the hard way that the slowest runners will "brake check" you at water stops, as they take the word "stop" quite literally - since they're not really running for time, so much as they are to finish the race. This usually caused me to spill my water all over myself when I inevitably rear-ended them.

7. I forgot my watch and had no real idea how fast I was running. That one was on me.

8. I figured that I'd take it one mile at a time and maybe it would get better.

9. It didn't get better.

10. Having bands play at every mile marker sounds like fun on paper, but let me tell you - fatigue and nausea make a cover version of "Welcome to the Jungle" with a slightly flat female singer sound considerably less awesome that you might think.

Big city marathon. big crowds. big hype. But worth a look see for sure. don't plan to repeat the experience but I did find it mostly enjoyable. No gripes. Flat fast easy course. My time goal - qualify for Boston. Done with time to spare. Pacers were present and those around the 4 hour mark were on target. I fully expected the 13 miles off the strip would be desolate...and they were. So what? Only suggestion about that to organizers is put a better band at miles 17-21. On the strip some great bands you run past in seconds, out in the boonies a rap offering for miles (speakers blaring and lights flashing). Would have prefered neither. As for spectating - my wife tells me it's the best marathon ever in that regard. In summary, happy to have had the experience.

I am still dizzy from the mazes around the World Market pavilions (a dystopian scene from 'The Running Man') and the festival grounds (a vortex with no exit... forever).

The course is like day, the Strip, and night, the rest. The logistics behind organizing such an event must be enormous, yet, there should be a way to find an out-and-back that is less mentally devastating.

I loved the start area at New York New York. Everything worked like a breeze for me, and by leaving early I had also no problem getting into my corral. Also, the finish area was as good as it could get for a race of that size. Thumbs up!

My main criticism was the lack of electrolyte along the course though. Those were only available at every second water stop. True, I knew about that beforehand, but never thought that their lack would impact me that much in the dry desert climate.

Overall, if there was a new course I would consider coming back, and should that time come I would bring my own electrolyte.
