Lauderdale A1A Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 Everything was great from the organization, to the volunteers, plenty of aid stations, cool medals, and nice shirts. It was very hot and humid and it was not an easy day to run a marathon.

Lauderdale A1A Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 2 I happened to be in Florida on vacation so I decided to run this half marathon. I had someone pick up my packet so I didn't attend the expo and I used an uber to the start so i didn't use any race transportation. The race itself was nice. I lucked out as it was actually pretty cool for Florida's standards and not much humidity. The race started at 6am which is pretty early but it made it so that we beat what normally would be tough heat/humidity. The course itself was mostly flat. My only issue on the course is that it went through a state park which was completely pitch black for two miles. I mean, you could barely see anything which is tough when you are trying to run fast. The best part of the course honestly came after emerging from the dark park to a beautiful sunrise on the beach. The course itself was well marked and I had it at exactly 13.1 on my watch at the finish. The finish was pretty cool as it was on the beach. The post race party was fantastic, one of my favorites at any race I have been to. They had great food for the race size-hamburgers, enchiladas, fruit, chocolate milk, muffins, cookies, everything you could want to eat and plenty of it. The race medal was great too, a really cool turtle. I also won a nice plaque for my age group and won a giant bottle of olive oil (race sponsor). The only thing I would complain about was a lack of spectators but it is so early, I would imagine no one was going to be on the course cheering us on. Also, the race shirt was kind of boring. I was hoping for some south Florida colors and it was just a boring army green shirt with a turtle on it. A great race, lots of fun, I highly recommend it. Plus I got a half marathon PR in Florida!
P. H. from Wisconsin (1/30/2020) "Great Winter Race!" (about: 2020) 11-50 previous marathons COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 This is a fun race for the Runners from the North. The day temps in the 70s. The morning of the race, it was in the 50s-perfect running weather. The expo had size to it, and several booths with food sampling. The buses were all on time to take us to the start. On time start at 6 am. Great police support at every major corner. Bring your cell phone as the sunrise was gorgeous! The finish was next to the beach so a great place to sit after you were finished. Again, lots of free food at the finish, including hamburgers, beer, fruit, muffins, cookies, etc. The medals are awesome-love the turtle, so sweet. Yes, the course is flat as it is a Boston qualifier! Yes, I definitely would recommend this race! Bring your swim suit & swim or tan on the beach:)
J. R. from FL (2/19/2019) "Okay race, better half than full" (about: 2019) 4-5 previous marathons \| 1 Ft. Lauderdale A1A Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 I ran it this year. It was really hot (of course not their fault). There were plenty of water stops with water and sport drink. There was only one spot I found with gel though and for a marathon that was a bit lacking. Every other marathon I've done has had multiple stations with gel. There are so few marathon runners, it is really geared to the half marathon runner. The course is good although with the sun and heat, you are roasting the last few miles.
C. B. from MI (2/25/2018) "Hot and Boring" (about: 2018) 50+ previous marathons \| 1 Ft. Lauderdale A1A Marathon COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 2 The hot wasn't the race's fault. I don't understand how people like the course so much, though. Yes, the ocean sunrise and the finish along iconic A1A are nice, though by that point this year I was walking and hating life because of the heat. But everything from Hugh Birch to the turnaround is tedious, with no spectators. Race organization was mostly fine, but I give them a major ding for the finish line shuttle. Even though the web page said '13 shuttles running continuously from 4 to 1 pm,' we had to wait almost an hour for our shuttle back to the start line, and it wasn't even close to 1:00 when we got in line for the shuttle. I don't see how that's possible with 13 shuttles running. I thought the shirt was fine (short-sleeve tech), and the jellyfish medal was interesting, and the race was overall okay, but I hold a grudge over any complications with finish line shuttles.

Lauderdale A1A Marathons COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 I've run the half-marathon a couple times and really enjoyed it. The course is very scenic, starting in downtown Fort Lauderdale before heading toward the beach. It gets a little tight in spots, heading through a park before doing an out-and-back on A1A, but the closing miles on a straightaway down beachfront allow you to finish strong. Could use more portable toilets near starting line. If you're visiting from out of town, it's easier to cab or uber/lyft to expo and starting line, or you can grab the shuttle buses running from beachfront and convention center hotels before start.

Lauderdale A1A Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 I had always wanted to do this race. the medal was beautiful and the booths at race expos in Canada were always staffed by rather attractive ladies. I promised I would do this and since this is the final countdown to my 100th I thought I would add this race. The package pick up is good but I thought paying $25 for a parking pass a bit excessive. The food at the finish line was finished by the time I got there but the medical tent was nice. The course is flat and the view of the ocean was very nice. A good race with beautiful scenery a great medal that I will show my nieces and nephew at Easter!

Lauderdale A1A Marathons COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 I have run this half marathon every year and enjoy showcasing beautiful areas of my home city. The start in downtown with festive lights along the boulevard, the gorgeous view of the sunrise from the bridge approaching the ocean and the remaining miles with ocean, intercoastal and park views provide a perfect venue for resident runners and visitors. The volunteers are terrific as are the police who monitor the course. This is the biggest turnout I have experienced in all the years I have participated. Every year I have complained about the T shirt. Finally, and I thank the race committee the T shirt was great! Thank you for a fun event!

Lauderdale A1A Marathons COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 RD needs to update this space, as blurb is from several years ago. Agreed that EXPO is HORRIBLY located. Have a smaller one and hold it in a hotel. Cannot stress this enough. End of course needs work. There are lots of police, a plus, but there's a left turn sometime after mile 18 or 19 that can seem unclearI saw runners ahead paused, trying to ensure they were to turn while the cop sat in his car. The last 2-3 miles are full of slower half marathoners walking 3 and 4 abreast. Sounds trivial until you are using extra steps every 10 feet or so to have to run around them. Band usually is too loud. This last time, awards were a half hour late, and they were up on line on time, so that was a pain.
