"A Great Add-On to the Antarctica Marathon!!" (about: 2005)

A perfect end to the incredible Antarctica Marathon experience. The marathon itself is small, but has a large spirit. The race starts in a national park at the southern most point of the pan-American highway. Spectator were sparse until you came into town but were very energetic. It is the only marathon I have ever heard of that offers to take you to the start by catamaran.

I ran the race 12 days after the Antarctica Marathon. It was a convenient run on my way to 7 continents (1 continent to go). The race was small and fairly well organized for a small race. The course was mildly difficult and challenging. If you're in the vicinity of Ushuaia (post Antarctica), this is worthwhile.

I agree with Will Smith's comments below. At the finish line about 100 espectators made a lot of noise when we arrived, and our name and country where announced. Not so many competitors but the 300 represented a lot of different countries. Last, but not least, I ran my best time ever in this race, until the next marathon.

"Great Race! Best Aid Station Ever! A+ Organization" (about: 2007)

I ran this race 8 days after running the Antarctica Marathon. The organizers changed the dates to accommodate our schedules. They moved packet pickup to our hotel and went over the course with us. The transportation to the race was excellent - very nice buses. Don't expect too much from spectators unless you bring a large crowd, but there was plenty of beautiful scenery to keep us entertained. The toughest part was the out-and-back to the airport (about 4K). The winds were at least 40-50 mph and freezing! To be fair we were warned about it ahead of time at the briefing. Each aid station had cereal bars, fresh fruit, Gatorade, water, and sponges. I was very impressed. All in all, I highly recommend this race - they did a great job.

"Excellent race to follow Antarctica" (about: 2005)

I also ran this just 8 days after finishing the Antarctica Marathon. This was my 6th continent (and finished 7th continent this year in Kenya at Safaricom). It was perfect weather, but dress for cold later and early. The first part through the park is wonderful and the second part gets a bit lonely but pretty nevertheless. The setting around there is magnificent and I thought there were plenty of aid stations to go around. If you think you can't do 2 in 8 days after finishing Antarctic in 2007 - GO FOR IT. You may not have another chance and it seems the 8 days is enough time for your legs to recover enough as I was lucky enough to have a PR and was so happy at the end. If you are with Marathon Tours, you will be well taken care of from the hotel to the starting line and you will greatly enjoy this. Don't go home early and don't miss it!

"An absolutely wonderful experience!" (about: 2005)

My 41st marathon and 5th continent. It was great fun, and for a small marathon the aid stations were well-stocked with a lot of variety. The section through the National Park was one of the prettiest runs I have seen. The town was out in force at the finish and enthusiastically supported all the finishers. The last few miles through the town were not always scenic, and there was little crowd support until the last mile. If they can organize more of the race through the park and along the Beagle Passage, that would be an improvement.

Also, they need to work on the finisher's medal - pretty generic - would be nice to add their penguin logo. T-Shirts were very attractive, but sizes were smaller than normal. I was glad to have an XL. I ran this 8 days after the Antarctica Marathon, and had a lot of misgivings about running two marathons so close together, but more than half of the Antarctica Marathon runners stayed on, and enjoyed the experience. Be sure to add this short stay on after Antarctica, since it's more than worth the added cost. I will go back to Patagonia any time!
