"Great scenary, challenging course" (about: 2015)
6-10 previous marathons
| 1 International Hornisgrinde Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 Finding a marathon during the summer isn't easy, so I choose this small event in the Black Forest with about 150 participants. I found it to be well organized with many refreshment stations and enthusiastic staff along the beautiful course. The course itself is challenging, descending for the most part during the first half en then ascending most of the second half.

"Beautiful but certainly not flat!!!" (about: 2007)
6-10 previous marathons
| 1 International Hornisgrinde Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I ran this marathon as part of a mini worldwide tour and found it to be a truly memorable experience. It is literally in the Black Forest. You will be running on cool, windy forest tracks and paths that resemble cross-country trails. The last kilometer is so steep that it made last year's San Francisco Marathon look like Rotterdam the previous Easter. Very well organized, sparse but enthusiastic supporters, and an organizing team of Karl et. al. very well worth meeting. I would recommend this marathon to anyone worldwide.

"Very special with breathtaking view and last mile" (about: 2006)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 If you like many spectators and bands and cheerleaders and 1000's of runners: dont go to Hornisgrinde. If you prefer about 300 runners, with a very familiar situation, where you have/get what you need, and a challenging, rather flat course with a breathtaking final mile in the BEAUTIFUL black forest in Germany - plus spectacular views in the nature and running sometimes absolutely on your own - then don't miss this very special one and go to the next HORNISGRINDE Marathon in the northern black forest in Germany. |
