Despite the fact that Malaysia's Yuan Yufang won the women's title of the Kuala Lumpur International Marathon, outpacing a field of top runners throughout the race, she is unhappy with her timing. Her time was 3 hours 2 minutes 20 seconds in the race, which is over seven minutes short of her Personal Best. Yufang collected RM8,000, and a certificate for air travel to any Asian country offered by Malaysian Airlines.

This year's Kuala Lumpur Marathon was the biggest in it's history, with over 9,002 participant runners. 351 runners were from 27 different countries from all over Europe and Southeast Asia. Vladimir Kotov from Belarus won the men’s race in 2:33.37 and Yuan Yufang took the women’s race in 3:02:20.

The China-born women's athlete Yuan Yufang won the Kuala Lumpur Marathon in 3 hours 2 minutes and 2 seconds, staying ahead throughout the race. Thailand's Sunisa Sailomyen came in second in 3 hours 4 minutes and 37 seconds. Vladimir Kotov from Belarus won in the men's section in 2 hours 33 minites and 37 seconds.
