I ran, actually began trekking, a conservative race. As it progressed, I realized what I could reasonably demand of my body, and improved steadily. Key is to keep hydrated, nourished, rested, and moving.

An out-of-this-world experience! The organization was flawless. It was a very soul-searching experience - just you against you, in the desert. Running for five hours solid the first day was no problems, with the beautiful scenery. Day two, however, was tough; my feet were bad from the dunes, and the days that followed were painful. Still, a wonderful experience. A must-do!!
