Danube marathon is a very small run with only few hundred runners in total. Everything is taken care of perfectly and for sure you get excellent value for your entrance fee of some 5 USD (2000). Foreign runners are treated exceptionally well, indeed.
In the run itself one must be careful. First half is uphill all the way until the turning point in a small Austrian city and then the same way back down to Bratislava. There were not too many mileage markings in 2000. If still so, do not go with half-distance runners and spoil your race at the beginnning. This is what I more or less did and I have never been so exhausted at the finish line...
Make sure that you leave yourself some time to see Bratislave itself after (or before) the run. It is worth doing! The old city center is beautiful and don't forget to visit the castle, as well. From there you can enjoy nice scenery over the city and River Danube while emptying your well-earned beer with some class.
