C. Y. from TEXAS (9/23/2019) "Great Little Race with One Issue" (about: 2019) 50+ previous marathons COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 Nice, rolling, out & back course on a road with little traffic. Four aid stations, but you saw them twice. My husband was able to drive ahead a few miles throughout the race, which was nice. Perfect running weather, easy packet pick-up and decent communication. As this was my 57th marathon and I don't do these for the medal, it was odd to not be given one when I crossed the line but rather, told to go pick one up off a table 'over there'. I had run a while with a first time marathoner who had traveled from AZ for the race, and felt bad she wouldn't get the finish line experience she deserved.

My 12th running off-and-on since 1978, including sharing many miles with Frank when it was the Juneau Marathon with 8-10 finishers out-and-back from the Glacier Visitors Center on mainland side. 2. New pavements along otherwise undistinguished shoulders of N. Douglas Hiway = smooth running for us barefoot runners 3. Mendenhall Glacier vista along Outer Point to turnaround at top of Vista Hill make it worthwhile though. 4. Almost constant cacophony of screeching bald eagles along the way. 5. Instead of early start at 6am, I should have taken remedial early start at 5am to avoid finishing DGL (dead glorious last) at 12:38 pm to the finish line but still got in on the last of the grilled salmon BBQ. Missed greeting committee though

(about: 2013) 50+ previous marathons \| 6+ Frank Maier Marathons COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 Running along the ocean, gazing at a glacier and whales-Am I dreaming? No, it's my 11th fantastic trip to Juneau, where Kim and Bryan direct a wonderful race. There are flexible start times for any pace. The volunteers are terrific and the after run meal of fresh salmon steaks and veggie burgers(for we few who can resist the salmon)is unsurpassed

(about: 2012) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Frank Maier Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 Good: Find the power within your soul and your surroundings will keep you going. Some very beautiful views can inspire you. Met wonderful people along the way. Best salmon waiting for you at the end. Not so good: No national anthem, a big nono in my book, still no time or picture posted. The volunteers at the finish line should understand you can't just stop running and come to a complete stop, get out of the way and let the runners walk, then give them water, and their medal, a smile...
C. d. from Bishop, CA (8/21/2012) "Course OK, Organization - Room for Improvement" (about: 2012) 1 previous marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 2 I ran the half-marathon-early start at 8:00 am. There were many staggered start times; seemed unnecessary since there were very few runners to begin with. The course on Douglas Island was an out/back, but you had to be careful because it was not a closed or directed by police and there were alot of cars. I believe there was too much $ and concentration spent on post race food which most of it ended up left over. Should of been a better choice and time spent on a 'professional' photographer that could capture 'every' runner. The final result/times were and still not posted on the official website nor the pictures didn't get posted until 4 weeks post race. If you're trying to complete all 50 states and Alaska is one of them, choose Anchorage..

A. from Yardley, PA (8/13/2011) "Fantastic Alaskan Marathon Scenery" (about: 2011) 6-10 previous marathons \| 1 Frank Maier Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 From the cruise ships in Gastineau Channel, to the mountains on both side, to friendly organizers and aid station volunteers, this small town marathon was a beautiful way to see Douglas Island/Juneau, Alaska for an 'east-coaster' like me.

(about: 2011) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Frank Maier Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 For such a small race the race director and helpers did a wonderful job. Plenty of aid stations on this out and back course and every station had Gatorade, water and GU. The natural beauty was outstanding. How often do you get to see Bald Eagles when you run? The post race cook out was fantastic - Hot Dogs, Burgers and Salmon (a real treat). If your going for 50 States I recommend this one for Alaska.

R. from Calgary Alberta (7/31/2011) "Best post marathon food ever out of 45 marathons" (about: 2011) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Frank Maier Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 1 Extremely well organized race with a small town feel but great prizes and the most exceptional post marathon feast ever. We enjoyed burgers, fresh salmon, a variety of fruit and the chocolate milk was an excellent touch for a recovery drink.The scenery offered glaciers, lakes, waterfalls and wildlife. This marathon is definitely worth doing.

It's the best way to meet the locals who love to run. BBQ was great, and the half marathon medals were perfect. Thanks so much!!!

(about: 2010) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Frank Maier Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This marathon may be the smallest I have run, in terms of number of runners, but one of the largest in terms of scenery and wonderful, helpful volunteers along the route. We were visiting Juneau for a wedding so we had to rush away at the end and missed the post-race BBQ. It smelled and looked delicious. Thumbs up to this race. I cannot think of anything that could have been better. Thank you!
