I just finished doing this event for my third straight year. I had always thought this event would be silly - serious runners do not enter walking marathons, right? Of course not - that is why there are only four comments here from over the years. But four years ago, I read about a local runner who had run over 400 regular marathons, who was doing this while recovering from a running injury. I meet people from all over the world there and many others from the NW. Everyone is happy, and I socialize with people while running the course at a very relaxing pace (run and walk). The event usually draws over 1,200 people. It costs 5 or 10 dollars, depending on when you register. Only negative thing is that while they provide other events the next day, they have decided not to provide an additional marathon on their last day. Although, I think I could do their half marathon course twice and still finish before they close their course down. I will definitely be back for my fourth year next year. I will suggest that they provide the marathon option, like I know they did a few years ago on their last day.

If you are competitive at all, go somewhere else. If you want a good walk with nice people, this is your place.

Fantastic Walking Marathon! (about: 2006)

Who knew that those wacky volksmarchers could put on such a great event. I did both marathons on Saturday AND Sunday. Loved the two different courses. Support was adequate for walkers - runner's will want to carry their own fuel. The international flavor is incredible with participants from all over the world. This would be a GREAT 1st marathon or one to get you back into the swing of going 26.2. No timing chips, no crowds, no lines at the port-a-potties - just some great people having a good time. I'll be back!

This is a different type of event and wonderful (about: 2005)

The international flavor of the event makes it worth coming back year after year.

Absolutely wonderful (about: 2005)

Great weather, people, fun. Wish there weren't as many out-and-backs. Too much time to see other runner faces so far ahead of me. The finish was a poor choice. Concrete floor is not my idea of a good finish surface. I was looking for grass to lie down on.
